Subject to availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. Duties and Responsibilities Teach a minimum of 1 course in addition to HWST 107, including but not limited to: HWST 110, HWST 222, HWST 255 HWST 257, HWST 270, HWST 281/282, HWST 285. Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress. Assess student learning in terms of course competencies and program learning outcomes. Submit self-assessment reports based on student and peer evaluations. Work under the general supervision of the discipline coordinator/department chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area. Integrate teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area under supervision of the discipline coordinator/department chairperson. Maintain one office hour per week for each class taught. Classes may be offered online, evenings and/or weekends. Adhere to community college principles and philosophy. Work effectively with a diverse student and community population in accordance with the Board of Regents Policy 4.207 III.F.1 and college practice of the open-admission concept. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Hawaiian Studies; OR, Master's degree in Hawaiian Language with at least 9 credits of advanced and/or graduate level coursework focused on Native Hawaiian areas ; OR, Bachelor's degree in Hawaiian Studies AND 3 years of related work experience; OR, Master's degree with at least 15 credits of advanced and/or graduate level coursework or research topic focused on Native Hawaiian areas; OR, Master recognition in a specific area of Hawaiian knowledge as recognized by the Hawaiian community in that area AND 10 years of related work experience. Note: All minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment. Desirable Qualifications Prior experience teaching HWST 107 or HWST 200-level courses; Demonstrated ability to work with community college students; Successful college-level teaching experience (at a community college level or four-year college); Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively; Familiarity with competency and outcome-based instruction; Strong oral and written communication skills.
