Job Description
Successful law firm seeks a full time Legal Assistant for our downtown St. Louis location. Candidate must possess excellent organizational skills and have comprehensive experience with the legal profession. This position requires a highly motivated, organized professional capable of functioning in a fast-paced, challenging legal environment. Position Summary:
The Legal Assistant enhances attorneys' effectiveness in handling cases, communication with clients, and obtaining needed evidence for available defenses; monitoring case development and deadlines; and supporting attorney's trial and deposition settings. This position will support multiple attorneys with the preparation of documents for worker's comp defense and general liability cases.
Essential Job Functions:
Keeps cases organized by establishing and organizing files; monitoring calendars; meeting deadlines; documenting actions; inputting information into file database and case management software.
Completing attorney dictation through firm software including correspondence, pleadings and medical records requests, etc.
Helps develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; scheduling depositions; preparing and forwarding summonses and subpoenas; requesting medical records, filing discovery requests and various court pleadings.
Enhances trial proceedings by organizing evidence; preparing exhibits; scheduling witnesses; ensuring that witnesses are ready when needed.
Scheduling depositions and IME's, maintenance of files, and coordination of court appearances.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Skills and Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED (or equivalent) required, Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
3+ years of Administrative Assistant experience supporting attorneys in a legal office setting.
Experience with electronic filing for workers' compensation and general liability preferred.
Experience with typing dictation
Working knowledge of court rules and procedures.
Microsoft Word experience and required; Excel and PowerPoint experience preferred.
Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and administrative skills.
Excellent attention to detail with the ability to multi-task.
Excellent telephone, writing, and proofreading skills.
Must be self-motivated and able to meet deadlines under pressure.
Must have the ability to work as part of a team, as well as to work independently.
