Responsibilities: The Legal Assistant is the front line of communication with our clients in deportation proceedings (detained and non-detained) and their families.
You will keep client files impeccably well-organized, use the firm's resources to look up answers to common questions, collect required information and documents from clients, and keep clients updated on the status of their cases (using the info provided by the attorneys).We believe in over-communicating with our clients so they're never in the dark or confused.
This means that you'll be repeating yourself a lot, sometimes to people who are terrified because their loved one is detained and might get deported.
Therefore, this position requires someone with patience and empathy.We are looking for an "A+" player with the organizational talent to help us help more people.
Qualifications: We need a competent professional who: • Thrives under change • Loves seeing processes improve • Believes that if we aren't improving, we're deteriorating • Can change gears quickly Proactive and persuasive: • Works with clients to help them reach their goals, even when the client is reluctant • Loves thinking up ways to best catch clients at a convenient time so they cooperate • Considers it a personal win when they accomplish their assignments • Asks questions when anything isn't clear or more training is needed • Compassionate • Empathizes with the clients' struggles • Organized • Obsessively categorizes docs and info • Never move on to something else before the docs/info are correctly labeled and saved in the correct place • Keeps many different tasks organized • Manages calendars, schedules appointments, and corresponds with clients and attorneys via email and phone • Office competencies • Proficient in basic PDF manipulation (merging files, removing pages, etc.)
• Proficient in Google Docs (or can become proficient within a week) • Proficient in Google Calendar and Calendly (or can become proficient within a week) • Competent and comfortable with basic online research and filling out forms • Excellent written and verbal communication skills • English is not required, Fluent in Spanish is required
