Overview
The Dallas office of Kaufman Dolowich, an AV-rated® firm designated one of the "Best Companies to Work For" among U.S. law firms by U.S. News & World Report, is seeking candidates for a Legal Assistant/Paralegal position.
The Legal Assistant/Paralegal works directly with our attorneys to prepare for upcoming cases and gets involved in fact-finding projects.
The individual manages attorney caseloads by being organized, professional, responsible, and committed to helping the Firm meet all our clients' needs.
The candidate would be joining a growing, dynamic firm with more than 200 attorneys nationwide.
Responsibilities and Duties: Works with attorneys to develop legal arguments, motions and other case filings.
Utilizes existing files and a variety of other research resources to develop information for pending cases.
Drafts discovery demands and responses, including, but not limited to, Requests for Production, Interrogatories, Notices for Discovery and Inspection and Requests for Admissions.
Processes deposition transcripts.
Prepares trial and arbitration hearing binders.
Assists with drafting documents such as: Motion to Strike, Motion for Continuances, Proposed Orders, Requests for Judicial Notice, Evidentiary Objections, etc.
Assists with e-filing in State, Federal and Appellate Courts and checks the Court's local rules.
Prepares timelines and demonstrative exhibits.
Drafts routine legal correspondence.
Prepares first set of exhibits for motions, discovery responses, etc.
Reviews outgoing document production, including redacting and Bates stamping.
Creates Preservation of Evidence Letter and Document Request Letters.
Performs legal research via Lexis Nexis.
Conducts social media searches.
Processes HIPAA authorizations and follow up with providers for medical records.
Reviews, summarize and analyze medical records to assist with defense of action.
Other duties, as needed, to support the firm and office operations.
QualificationsLitigation experience preferred.
General Liability or Insurance Coverage background preferred.
Excellent communication and organization abilities.
Industry recognized certification from organizations such as ABA, NALA or AACP.
Experience in using legal database software (NEOS and West Law preferred).
Familiarity with legal terminology and principles.
The ability to analyze legal documents for accuracy.
Strong technology skills.
The ability to perform legal research.
Strong organizational skills; must be detail oriented.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
