LICENSED ASSISTANT ENGINEER CP ISLAND ENTERPRISETrident Seafoods is the largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company in North America. Assists Chief Engineer in directing and overseeing the activities of the engineering support department regarding the mechanical operations, repair and maintenance functions for the vessel by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors or staff:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Directs and oversees the functionality and safety of the vessel's engines, boilers, deck machinery, electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration and sanitary systems in accordance with Trident policy as well as local, state and federal laws and regulations.Oversees and establishes the performance and operation standards for all vessel systems. Resolves problems using solutions that involve appropriate techniques, technologies, or concepts.Directs and oversees required documentation for energy management, conservation and preventative maintenance programs.Oversees the design and implementation of training to ensure that all vessel engineering staff are properly trained, qualified and in compliance with regulatory training and/or regulatory certification requirements.Provides direction and acts as example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.Analyzes and maintains a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly.Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.Additional Responsibilities: Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned by Chief and/or Captain.MINIMUM REQUIREMENT: Must hold current USCG Assistant Engineer License.
EDUCATION Extensive seafood or related industry experience preferred. Four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES & LICENSES Appropriate licenses/permits of trade (e.g., CG license of appropriate horsepower, STCW, etc.) when required.
EXPERIENCE Factory Trawlers:
4 years as Engineer of a fishing boat in the fishery being applied for.2+ years as a deckhand on a fishing boat in the fishery being applied for.Intermediate engineering knowledge.Advanced firefighting skills.Current First Aid and CPR cards.Clean vessel safety record.Clear criminal background check.Familiarity of all state and federal requirements/regulations for the fishery being applied for.Familiarity with pollution abatement procedures.Basic HR awareness and training.3 years as licensed Engineer of a processing vessel in the fishery being applied for.3 years as an Assistant Engineer on a similar sized vessel.Advanced fire fighting skills.Current First Aid and CPR cards.Clean vessel safety record.Clear criminal background check.Familiarity of all state and federal requirements/regulations for the fishery being applied for.Familiarity with pollution abatement procedures.Basic HR awareness and training.Familiarity with production needs and willingness to work with vessel manager to support production.Familiarity with state and federal regulations that apply to the vessel being applied for.3 years as licensed Engineer of a similar sized vessel.2 years as an Assistant Engineer on a similar sized vessel.Advanced fire fighting skills.Current First Aid and CPR cards.Clean vessel safety record.Clear criminal background check.Familiarity of all state and federal requirements/regulations for the fishery being applied for.Familiarity with pollution abatement procedures.Basic HR awareness and training.Familiarity with state and federal regulations that apply to the vessel being applied for.This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers and reach with and arms hands. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must also be able to talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and peripheral vision.
