Bureau of School Health and Support, School Health Services, Contractual, 10 Month Positions Under the supervision of the appropriate School Health Nurse, this position makes nursing judgments and performs technical procedures within the scope of his/her practice/licensure to meet the health needs of students.
Responsibilities may also include a variety of health tasks and clerical work in assisting students with special health requirements, to include lifting, positioning, transferring, and aiding in bodily functions.
1.
Administers medication as ordered by physician and delegated by school nurse (RN).
2.
Provides first aid (including CPR) to students/staff.
3.
Maintains record of health room visits.
4.
Assists school nurse (RN) in review and follow up of immunization records and health inventories.
5.
Provides screening for nuisance conditions and may assist with screening for vision and hearing.
6.
Assists in preparing accident or health reports as appropriate.
7.
Provides health care procedures such as catheterization, gastrostomy tube feedings, tracheostomy suctioning and other non-delegatable treatments or procedures when necessary.
8.
Assists students with activities of daily living, i.e., toileting, positioning, feeding, transferring, etc., under supervision of school nurse (RN).
These activities may include lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responds quickly to medical emergencies in the school building and school grounds, which may include running and/or carrying emergency medical equipment to response location, 10.
Performs emergency medical care to students/staff as needed, including but not limited to performing CPR, administering Naloxone, and auto-injectable Epinephrine while kneeling on the floor.

Assists in monitoring students health status and reports changes to school nurse and parent as indicated.
12.
Assists in monitoring school staffs health status and tracks/reports changes to school nurse and/or appropriate individual as indicated.
13.
Assists students with special equipment required for participation in school to meet health and educational goals.
14.
Exercises appropriate judgment in dealing with students, parents, administrators, other employees, and the general public.
15.
Attends work as scheduled and demonstrates commitment to the organization.
16.
Maintains current Maryland licensure as LPN.
17.
Based on assignment, other specialized duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Practical Nurses.
Experience: None License: Must possess a current license as a Practical Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing.
