Job Description - LPN II - PRN - Gastroenterology Clinic, DC (240000KX) Description
All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, Children's National Policies, and procedures and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The LPN II will be responsible to provide care under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, Physician or Advanced Practice Nurse. Children's National supports the development of the LPN within the community specifically those relationships associated with the health and wellbeing of the community at large.
Qualifications Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED and completion of a 1-year vocational/technical training program in a related field. (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
2 years related experience (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Ability to perform technical functions, interact with children and families, and possess good verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates competence in obtaining accurate vital signs, assessment and documentation of patient care. Successfully complete Division of Nursing & Patient Services LPN Medication Administration test and hospital/nursing orientation. Identify resources and know when to ask for help or escalate. Demonstrate basic knowledge, judgment, and skill in the delivery of the nursing process including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, education, and evaluation.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Licensed Practical Nurse Upon Hire (Required) and Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) Upon Hire.
Functional Accountabilities Differentiates new problems from long-term problems at the time of admission/clinic visit; conducts patient history to establish child's normal baseline routine; responds to inquiries from families by answering questions clearly.Accurately takes TPR, BP, height & weight, head circumference, and intake and output measurements according to procedure.Recognizes physical and behavioral changes for groups of patients usually cared for in the assigned area; performs basic nursing care which may include personal hygiene, dressing, linen change, positioning, assisting in the use of bedpan, urinal, diaper change, ambulation, and therapeutic interventions.Immediately responds to and assesses the child whose feeding MV pump or monitor is alarming; troubleshoots the alarm system and informs Registered Nurse as needed.Collects and tests specimens, passes NG tubes and catheters according to procedure and unit policy.Prepares for the setup of monitors and D.C.'s peripheral IV's after directed by a Registered Nurse.Organizational Accountabilities Anticipates and responds to customer needs; follows up until needs are met.Demonstrates collaborative and respectful behavior, partnering with all team members to achieve goals.Contributes to a positive work environment and identifies opportunities to improve clinical and administrative processes.Speaks up when team members exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.Primary LocationDistrict of Columbia-Washington
