Job Description Overview We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lumber Buyer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the lumber market strong negotiation skills and a proven track record of sourcing highquality lumber at competitive prices. This role is essential in ensuring the timely and costeffective procurement of lumber for our production needs. Responsibilities Sourcing and Procurement: Identify and develop relationships with reliable lumber suppliers. Research and analyze market trends to identify costeffective sourcing opportunities. Negotiate favorable pricing delivery terms and quality standards with suppliers. Place purchase orders and manage inventory levels to optimize stock levels. Quality Assurance: Inspect incoming lumber shipments to ensure compliance with quality standards. Collaborate with quality control teams to address any quality issues. Develop and implement quality control procedures to minimize defects and waste. Cost Control: Monitor market fluctuations and adjust purchasing strategies to minimize costs. Identify costsaving opportunities through efficient procurement and inventory management. Analyze purchasing data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure timely deliveries and quality products. Resolve supplier issues and disputes promptly and professionally. Evaluate supplier performance and identify potential new suppliers. Reporting and Analysis: Generate regular reports on purchasing activities including supplier performance cost analysis and inventory levels. Analyze purchasing data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Prepare budgets and forecasts for lumber procurement. Qualifications Bachelors degree in business administration supply chain management or related field. 5 years of experience in lumber purchasing or a related field. Strong understanding of lumber grades species and industry standards. Excellent negotiation and communication skills. Proficiency in purchasing software and ERP systems. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Additional Considerations Experience in the construction or manufacturing industry is preferred. Knowledge of international sourcing and logistics is a plus. Certification in purchasing or supply chain management is a bonus.
