Job Description:
M&E (Mechanical & Electrical) Superintendents coordinate onsite with the electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and controls trade subcontractors to ensure that the mechanical, electrical and plumbing construction work is installed safely, of the highest quality, and in accordance with project specific cost and schedule requirements.
The M&E Superintendent is responsible for planning and scheduling, coordination of all inspections, quality control and assurance, and job-site safety for the successful completion of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and control system(s) in all phases of the project.
The M&E Superintendent creates schedules for all M&E subcontractors, consultants, and vendors with a clear critical path to ensure timely project completion.
M&E Superintendents provide coordination and planning and ensure quality control for the ME work being performed at a job site.
They also set the tone regarding the creation of a safe working environment.
A successful M&E Superintendent is a self-directed, detail-oriented time manager who is comfortable with complex and/or fast-paced projects.
They seek input and collaborate with other project members, and develop and inspire community among PMs, PEs, other superintendents, vendors, and consultants.
M&E Superintendents must have excellent decision-making skills, M&E expertise, and should have a thorough understanding of all M&E systems.
They must be able to relate to and effectively communicate with many different types of workers and provide technical guidance and support to the project team.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential in all areas of interaction.
The M&E Superintendent should be capable of successfully overseeing a single project on his/her own without support from other Supervisory roles.
Collaborate positively with all Fortis team members, the Client and trade partners in the spirit of driving team health and positive project outcomes.
Have a detailed understanding of the contract documents (drawings and specifications), phasing plans, M&E systems interrelationships, construction sequencing and project schedule.
Lead the coordination and planning of the M&E and controls installation.
Facilitate problem solving, as may arise, between ME Subcontractors during construction.
Assist in the receipt and review of M&E submittals.
Ensure that any M&E changes are being incorporated into the field work.
Participate in Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) coordination meetings to plan and resolve routings.
Ensure the VDC model is updated with actual field installations.
Direct, monitor and control the activities of M&E Subcontractors.
Schedule and procurement tracking for M&E scopes and equipment.
Interface with the client technical staff.
Coordinate Owner Furnished Equipment.
Liaison with consultant, M&E design engineers, inspectors, and relevant staff.
Ensure that all M&E work is completed safely and in compliance with all drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
Ensure that M&E Subcontractors provide and adhere to relevant QA/QC requirements.
Prepare Methods of Procedures (MOP's) for all high risk and shutdown activities.
Ensure that M&E Subcontractors adhere to site specific safety plans and pre-task plans.
Assist in the integration, start-up, testing and commissioning of M&E systems Develop and manage M&E project schedules including four-week look-ahead schedules and pull planning efforts Implement plans to ensure all materials, equipment and inspections support the project schedule Effectively manage the utilization of Fortis tools and equipment Provide high-level management of safety, quality and schedule/risk compliance for the project and team members Identify opportunities to improve processes and procedures, means and methods, sequencing, and/or safety protocol Develop and manage the project hazardous energy management protocol.
Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position's and team's objectives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 5+ years of experience as an M&E Coordinator or M&E trade supervisor Strong grasp of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems Ability to run complex meetings with multiple constituents and follow-up on deliverables Excellent listening, communication, and organizational skills Experience with systems start-up, testing, and commissioning Expertise reading blueprints and other construction documents Current driver's license Familiar with and proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel/Project/Word/Outlook) Proficiency with scheduling software platforms, such as MS Project, Primavera P6 Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and written with strong use of English language Completion of OSHA 30 Assist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position's and team's objectives.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Ability to read and/or speak alternative languages (i.e., Spanish) is not required, but is beneficial PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed on an active construction site.
Role may sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
Utilize standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.
Communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing.
May occasionally push, pull, or lift up to 50 lbs.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Local or regional travel.
