Job Responsibilities:Ensure an exceptional shopping experience and friendly and welcoming environment for all members, customers, and employees.Model and ensure customers receive prompt, helpful, attentive, and authentically friendly service in accordance with the Co-op's customer service standards.Maintain a calm and friendly demeanor with all customers and employees/co-workers in all situations.Investigate and respond to employee questions and maintenance requests in a timely manner; escalate to the appropriate member of management if unable to resolve directly.Maintain ongoing communication with store and department management regarding the timeline and scheduling of repairs.Department Operations:Ensure an organized, clean, and efficient department.Ensure the maintenance and repair of all equipment and property of the North Coast Co-op.Perform and manage preventive maintenance of refrigeration, HVAC, lighting, roofing, electrical, emergency systems, elevator, tools/equipment, and plumbing.Schedule and coordinate with contractors, meet and review the scope of work with the Director of Technology.Evaluate and provide suggestions on all project proposals deciding when to perform jobs in-house or when to use outside vendors and contractors.Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources.Maintain and organize the department (i.e., equipment, materials, tools, MSDS, reference materials, invoice, service histories, submitted work-orders).Invoice management – process timely, accurate coding to proper GL accounts and records on vendors.Set daily priorities and expectations for department staff to ensure productive workflow.Continually evaluate department conditions, operations, and performance to determine areas for improvement; reinforce strengths while developing and implementing improved practices and procedures.Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained and properly serviced.Attend and actively participate in department head meetings, safety meetings, and company trainings.Ensure the integrity of the North Coast Co-op's Mission and Vision statements, along with the Cooperative Principles.Regularly assist in other departments/store, store-wide cleaning, and perform all other duties as assigned.Be familiar with and enforce all safety, health, and security rules, Safety Manual, federal and state regulations.Ensure use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for the position; understand and ensure safe use of equipment, safe lifting procedures, and proper ergonomics.Maintain a safe work environment according to all department procedures – Safety Manual, federal and state regulations.Essential Supervisory Functions:Organize workflow and ensure that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks.Model supportive and participatory leadership qualities, actively promote team building and motivate staff to achieve their stated objectives.Establish clear performance, productivity, and service expectations for all department staff; coach and discipline employees as needed, in coordination with HR, to ensure department standards are met.Ensure on-the-job training for department staff utilizing training checklists.In coordination with HR and Director of Technology, interview, hire, and train new employees.Receive complaints and resolve problems.Maintain timekeeping and personnel records in coordination with HR.Act as liaison between upper management and employees and share relevant information with/between parties as appropriate.Foster a productive working environment; ensure high levels of productivity and quality are maintained.Required Competencies:Excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.Ability to follow instructions and procedures, work without direct supervision on a variety of tasks simultaneously.Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques.Ability to develop and implement effective budgets and adhere to cost, margin, and labor requirements.Able to maintain confidentiality.Knowledge of the natural foods industry.Knowledge and familiarity of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, & Outlook).Minimum Qualifications:Previous maintenance/construction experience including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, roofing, auto mechanics, grocery industry, food service equipment, and lighting systems.CMMS data entry or other ticketing system experience.Valid driver's license.Work Environment and Physical Requirements:Physical Requirements: Stand and walk for extended periods of time.Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders.Bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders, and squat.Bend and lift loads not to exceed 75 pounds.Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.Fast-paced retail floor environment. Works with or near moving mechanical parts, in high precarious places, and in cold/hot climate conditions. Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments.
Customary Work Schedule:This position customarily works Monday through Friday, with occasional evening, and/or weekend shifts, and occasional overtime as required. Regular and prompt attendance is essential.
