Position Summary: The Maintenance Service Supervisor will assist the Vehicles and Facility Maintenance Manager in overseeing the maintenance and service program of a medium size transit fleet. The Maintenance Service Supervisor will supervise employees on assigned shifts; assist in maintaining parts inventory through parts distribution; and determine work priorities and work schedules for mechanics and bus handlers on assigned shifts. This position will oversee and monitor work to ensure quality and control measures of service performed and will provide leadership and direction to the lead mechanics, mechanics and bus handlers to ensure superior level of performance is met.
Essential Functions: Oversees the activities of mechanics, bus handlers, and other maintenance department personnel, as assigned.Assigns work priorities and work schedules of mechanics and bus handlers.Instructs maintenance personnel on proper repair techniques, tool use, and equipment use.Ensures that work is completed in compliance with New York State and Federal regulations.Ensures accurate recordkeeping on vehicle service hours, inspections, and scheduled maintenance of transit and fleet vehicles.Ensures accurate recordkeeping of work orders for the effective tracking of job completion/work hours and inventory control.Works with the Parts Coordinator to assure necessary parts are on-hand for effective service reliability.Monitors the fluid management system and usage.Assists in conducting performance reviews and probationary reviews.Teaches apprentice mechanics the skills of the trade by providing supervision and feedback.Assumes the role of manager in the absence of the Vehicles and Facility Maintenance Manager.Other duties as assigned by the Vehicles and Facility Maintenance Managers to assure the smooth operation of the transit service center. QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent (GED).Minimum six (6) years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, including a thorough knowledge of diesel motors.Working knowledge of current transit vehicle maintenance regulations.Working knowledge of the latest transit vehicle technology.Minimum one (1) year of experience in service management supervision in a transit vehicle or heavy equipment environment, or related experience.Ability to plan and manage the work of others.Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple assignments.Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills.Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and data management and inventory control software.Must possess a commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements.Flexibility to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and fill in as needed.
