Title/Position: Maker Space/Technology Tinker Program Specialist
Reports to: Director of Play and Learning
General Responsibilities: The Maker Space/Technology Tinker is responsible for all programming taking place in Wonderscope's Design Lab. The main focus of this position is to interact and engage with children and their families by introducing them to new technologies and maker activities and expanding their problem solving skills.
Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
1. Interact and engage with children and their families in the Design Lab/Maker Space Exhibit by providing guidance and inquiry-based activities to spark the imagination
2. Plan and lead daily Maker Space Technology and Science related activities and pop-ups
3. Create programming for Maker Space Activities monthly, including programming involving a 3D Printer and Cricut
4. Develop engaging robotic programs for children 12 years and younger
5. Introduce computer science and coding to children in a fun and playful way
6. Plan special projects for the workbench and Rig-A-Majig elements in the Design Lab
7. Assist Henderson Engineering in their monthly Creative Engineering Program
8. Keep the Design Lab fresh and fun with up-to-date technology and exhibit items
9. Be an active part of the Programs Team - more hands make light work and more creative, outside-of-the-box work at that!
10. Additional duties as assigned
Required Skills:
1. Bachelor's Degree in early education, child development, or technology-related field with emphasis on teaching
-OR- a minimum of three years' experience in a similar field
2. Experience in developing curriculum or lesson plans for young learners within informal or formal environments
3. Creative ability and experience in process-oriented technology/science/maker projects
4. Experience engaging young learners and their adults
5. Excellent writing and organizational skills and knowledge of MS Office/Google Suite software
6. Comfortable working with children in a fast-paced, high-traffic, and noisy public environment
7. Views children as capable and competent and recognizes that children learn naturally through play
8. Ability to genuinely communicate with diverse guests of all backgrounds and abilities
9. Ability to respond to guest needs and urgent/emergency situations in a calm, comforting manner
10. Ability to independently manage and prioritize several tasks efficiently and with ease
11. Reliable, flexible, and able to work cooperatively with other staff members as a positive team player
12. A strong commitment to the mission, vision, and values of WCM
Essential Physical Functions: On any given day, may be frequently required to do one or more of the following: climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, lifting up to 25 pounds and moving short distances
Hours of work: Monday 9:00a-3:00p, Tuesday-Friday 8:30a-4:30p
Compensation: $37,000 - $40,000 salary dependent on experience and ability.
