Summary GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Mammographer performs mammography procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses x-ray technology and techniques to assist in the screening and diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Performs all types of mammography studies to include screening, diagnostic and interventional procedures; practices radiation safety for patients, staff and self.
3. *Uses sterile technique as required.
4. *Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors.
5. *Competently operates all mammography equipment and support systems to include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, performs and evaluates images for technical quality.
6. *Adheres to all state and federal regulatory requirements and accreditation (American College of Radiology) requirements; provides proper documentation for regulatory and accreditation requirements.
7. *Utilizes department computer systems and PACS to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
8. *Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
9. *Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care.
10. *Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
11. *Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.
12. *Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
13. *Keeps area properly supplied.
14. *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of a school of radiologic technology with current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. ARRT certification in mammography required within six months of eligibility. Valid state medical radiographer license required.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
