Mammographer must be versed on ACR and the accreditation process.
Major Responsibilities: Determination of appropriate radiographic/mammographic technique and position the patient for specified exam. 1)Positions patient and operates equipment to assure radiography/mammograph of designated portion of the body obtained as specified by the physician. 2)Determines appropriate radiographic/mammographic technique based on anatomy and patient's condition to obtain high quality radiographs. 3)Secures history from patient regarding reason for prescribed test and records on the appropriate form for the radiologist review. 4)Labels radiographic films according to department standards. 5)Processes radiographs according to manufacturer's specifications.
Determines when radiographic exam adheres to standards set forth for radiographic interpretation. 1)Prepares radiology jacket and folder. 2)When appropriate, prior films should be made available. 3)Prepares information for Radiology billing. 4)Includes a history and technologist initials on encounter form. 5)Loads and unloads rolloscope for radiologist to read, in a timely manner to ensure exams are interpreted within 24 hours of exam completion.
Participates in Quality Control and Quality Assurance Program 1)Understands the quality control tests that are required by the accrediting body and is able to perform all tests. 2)Checks sensitometry film prior to performing patient exam. 3)Collects pertinent date and statistical information according to ACR/FDA standards 4)Reports equipment malfunctions to designated individual and maintains appropriate service records. 5)Correlates patient information to determine when follow-up information is complete.
Adherenece to all accepted safety standards and practices to ensure a safe patient and work environment by maintaining a continued awareness of safety hazards. 3)Insures cleanliness, neatness by overall appearance of designated work areas. 4)Maintains current CPR certification 1)Maintains compliance with established safety standards to protect patients and staff at all times. 2)Attends mandatory in-services relating to patient safety.
Delivery of patient care in accordance with departmental standards 1)Coordinates and prioritizes the flow of patients and paper work, to assure the patient's waiting time is kept to a minimum.
When necessary, changes the process to adapt to the needs of the department. 2)Follows proper telephone etiquette. 3)Participates in team problem-solving issues that would improve patient care, department operations, quality assurance, interdepartmental relationships, and employee satisfaction. 4)Demonstrates rapport and assists others when necessary. 5)Able to perform miscellaneous clerical functions.
Identification and documentation of department supplies to ensure adequate supply levels. 1)Monitor inventory of supplies to ensure adquate level of supplies. 2)Stocks and straightens up rooms daily.
Education/Experience Required: Graduate of AMA approved school/program of Radiologic Technology.
Three years experience as a Radiologic Technology* *this position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e.
understanding child growth and development, normal patterns of adolexcent behavior and look for signs of normal aging; prior age groups is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Mammography experience preferred.
Previous outpatient service preferred.
Knowledge of radiography services.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in mammography (RTM) Licensed by the Illinois Department of Nuclear safety (IDNS) Physicial Requirements and Working Conditions: May be exposed to hazardous materials.
May be exposed to life threatening diseases.
Flexible in changing environment.
Ability to lift and/or move patients.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with extablished time constraints.
Ability to work rotating shifts any day of the week.
Ability to transport objects form one location to another.
Radiation exposure If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.
For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
