Volvo Autonomous Solutions (V.A.S) is a new entity within the Volvo Group with the mission to develop and offer transport and material handling solutions never seen before. We accelerate the development, commercialization, and sales of autonomous transport solutions, focusing on defined segments. With entirely new business models and highly advanced technology we will meet and exceed expectations from customers, and contribute to a society that we want to live in. There are about 400 of us and together we form a team that is stronger than the sum of its parts - and is ready to tackle the big challenges we have ahead of us. We are located mainly in Sweden and have a growing footprint in the USA.
This is the role At Volvo Autonomous Solutions, we develop autonomous transport solutions for three segments – quarries & mining, ports & logistic centers, and Hub 2 Hub on highway transportation. The segment - Hub 2 Hub on highway transportation - represents a significant opportunity, with a strong US focus.
The Product organization of V.A.S. acts in close collaboration with other parts of the Volvo Group such as Volvo Group Trucks Technology, Purchasing and Operations/manufacturing, as well as our commercial organization within V.A.S and our technology partner Aurora. We believe Partnership is the new leadership, and we fill these words with action. For that reason, relationship management towards internal and external partners plays an important role towards our road to successful delivery.
Product Hub to Hub is one of the few vital functions within Product Organization in V.A.S. As the manager of our North American team within the Product Hub-to-Hub organization you will report to the Head of Product H2H and will lead a team of highly skilled engineers and architects located in our Greensboro office. The team is responsible for the high-level Autonomous Vehicle architecture, its systems, components and interfaces. This team plays a pivotal role in developing autonomous transport systems, supporting the integration of our partners' virtual drivers with our autonomy-enabled trucks, ensuring that all the capabilities of our high-quality integrated autonomous products are realized and ready for deployment in our autonomous transport solution offerings.
In this leadership role, it is expected to:
Maintain end-to-end product ownership over timeLead with stability in a rapidly changing business environment.Provide hands-on coaching and guidance to help team members grow in task ownership, prioritize effectively, and overcome technical challenges in a complex engineering environment.Collaborate closely with the program managers and other technology areas (located in Sweden) in cross-functional development efforts, focusing on System Integration, Verification and Validation, Safety & Compliance to ensure timely deliverables fulfilling respective program objectives and milestones.V.A.S. is a start-up within the Volvo Group, with a key objective of scaling our products. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying and implementing the key enablers needed to rapidly scale our autonomous transport systems and sub-systems for Hub-to-Hub on-highway applications.
Who are you?You have a proven leadership experience, combined with good practice of leading in change. You also have extensive experience from production intent product development in automotive, vehicle manufacturing, robotics or other related industries.
It is beneficial to have worked with development of Electrical & Electronic systems, both software and hardware, or within Autonomous Drive or Advanced Driver Assistance Systems fields.
Understanding of the applicable safety standards and regulations related to autonomous vehicles (e.g., ISO 26262, SOFIT, UL 4600, etc.) is considered a merit.
Experience in product management of SW or HW solutions or systems integration is a valued asset. From this manager, we strongly desire an entrepreneurial mindset coupled with a strong passion for innovation and technology.
We also believe you are an inspiring leader, able to develop and support people, and through them you enable the business to scale and to grow. The role requires managing various stakeholders, internally and externally, so your ability to manage relationships is crucial. You are fluent in English, both written and spoken and you have the ability to communicate in a clear and concise way. You have a university degree in engineering and are passionate about lifelong learning.
