The Colleague Services and Digital Capabilities (CSDC) organization at American Express plays a critical role in in providing the best-in-class services, capabilities, data and insights that enable a great colleague experience. The organization builds and evolves essential foundational and operational products and services to enable Colleague Experience Group (CEG) and the business. The CSDC organization manages the ecosystem of CEG platforms, applications, third party partners, colleague insights and reporting, and colleague-related risk, compliance, and governance.
Colleague Insights (CI) is a dynamic and growing team. The demand for data, self-service analytical dashboards, and insights is more important than ever to shape strategy and decisions at American Express. As a Manager of Data Science for Colleague Insights, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of data and insights, leading the way for our partners to use advanced analytics and data science to answer complex colleague -related business questions. You will use statistical and machine learning techniques to extract insights from large datasets, data exploration and analysis, make clear and sound recommendations across a range of analytic and data science solutions to answer business problems.
We're seeking an experienced professional with strong quantitative skills, in-depth business knowledge, and the ability to translate data insights into compelling narratives for non-technical audiences. As the Data Science Manager of the Colleague Insights Team, you'll address key business areas such as talent mobility, employee retention, hiring, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. You'll work with cross-functional teams to foster innovation and enhance performance.
An ideal candidate is highly analytical, technically proficient, intellectually curious, and an effective team player and communicator. You'll identify opportunities to boost colleague engagement and loyalty through clear, consistent analysis and insights. You will translate business requirements into meaningful analysis and insights, developing dashboards or reports to support initiatives. Communicating these insights to senior leaders effectively, both verbally and in writing, is a key expectation.
Your responsibilities also include identifying opportunities to foster colleague engagement and loyalty by delivering clear, consistent analysis and insights. As a strategic thinker, you'll be required to translate business requirements into meaningful analysis and insights, partnering with colleagues to create dashboards and/or reports to support colleague initiatives and strategies. Effective communication of these insights to senior leaders, both verbally and in writing, is crucial.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Partnership: Manage stakeholder relationships to assess needs and translate them into strategic insight plans and dashboard solutions.
Leadership: Direct and develop high-performing analysts to deliver superior business results.
Data Exploration and Analysis: Gather, sanitize, and preprocess extensive datasets from various sources, and perform exploratory data analysis.
Statistical Modeling: Construct and apply statistical models for data analysis, correlation identification, predictive modeling, and accurate forecasting.
Machine Learning: Employ machine learning algorithms to construct models for various data-driven applications.
Feature Engineering: Identify pertinent features and transform raw data to enhance model performance and predictive accuracy.
Data Visualization: Utilize data visualization tools and techniques to clearly communicate complex findings, employing effective storytelling methods.
Collaborative Problem Solving: Cooperate with cross-functional teams to comprehend business challenges and generate data-driven solutions.
Model Deployment and Monitoring: Deploy and oversee model performance in production environments to ensure reliability and accuracy.
Data Governance and Ethics: Adhere to data governance guidelines, uphold data privacy and security standards, and comply with applicable regulations.
Continuous Learning and Skill Development: Stay current with data science advancements, attend industry conferences, participate in training, and continually hone technical skills.

Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of relevant experience, including corporate experience.
Proven leadership skills and experience managing cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in data visualization and storytelling.
Exceptional project management and organizational skills, with a track record of managing multiple priorities and meeting stringent deadlines.
Bachelor's or master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related fields.
Proficiency in Python or R with experience using data manipulation libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy) and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, scikit-learn). Solid understanding of statistical concepts and techniques.
Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a creative and critical thinking mindset.
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI.
Understanding of business processes and industry trends, with the ability to convert business requirements into data solutions.
Proven ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and contribute to cross-functional projects.

Preferred Qualifications:
Corporate Experience: Experience using analytics to solve business issues in complex organizations.
Nice to have - Experience in People Analytics.
Minimum of 3 years of programming experience in Python, R, SQL, Hive.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in Tableau, Power BI.
Proven ability to communicate verbally and written results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong consultative skills and relationship-building abilities with cross-functional partners.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
