WHO WE ARE?

Through broad and inclusive partnerships, AGU aims to advance discovery and solution science that accelerate knowledge and create solutions that are ethical, unbiased and respectful of communities and their values. Our programs include serving as a scholarly publisher, convening virtual and in-person events, and providing career support. We live our values in everything we do, such as our net-zero energy renovated building in Washington, D.C., and our Ethics and Equity Center, which fosters a diverse and inclusive geoscience community to ensure responsible conduct.

This is an exciting time to work at AGU. Every day we approach our work with a sense of purpose, and we look for others who share that passion and desire for a career with impact.

WHO YOU ARE?

The American Geophysical Union, AGU, supports 130,000 Earth and space science enthusiasts and experts worldwide through partnerships, publications, building an inclusive community, and convening science at global meetings.

The increasingly complex meetings and events sector means building revenue streams beyond registration fees is increasingly important to being able to convene science. As engagement with companies, agencies, NGOs, and universities reaches across events and across AGU, we seek to create a position which will serve as a hub for these interactions within the Meetings team, and which will partner with other AGU departments including Strategic Communications and Marketing (SCM) and Development to pursue revenue and partnership opportunities.

You are responsible for partnership and revenue growth among the AGU meetings portfolios. You will drive that growth through direct sales and related fulfillment of exhibits and sponsorships opportunities, and by supporting efforts with AGU's exhibits partner (i.e., a contracted third-party exhibits sales service provider) to identify new sponsors and exhibitors and to steward relationships with existing sponsors and exhibitors.

You will work to increase the value provided to sponsors and exhibitors by deepening their engagement with AGU beyond the meetings portfolio. You will collaborate with AGU's Development, SCM and other internal partners to ensure other AGU program areas such as Eos magazine, digital newsletters, and branded content opportunities are available as value inclusions for purchasing organizations. In so doing, you will increase value both financially for AGU and relationally with purchasing organizations.

Your support will cross all AGU meetings, including the annual meeting (27,000 attendees), Ocean Sciences Meeting (6,000 attendees); AbSciCon (1,000 attendees); Triennial Earth-Sun Summit (400 attendees); Ocean Visions (400 attendees), and WaterSciCon (1,000 attendees), plus partnered events and science subfield-specific meetings and workshops ranging from 50-200 people. Working in close partnership with SCM, Development and other AGU teams, your support will connect to editorial output through our monthly science magazine Eos, newsletters, webinars, and branded content across video, digital and social platforms especially as they relate to opportunities at AGU events and meetings.

WHAT YOU WILL DO?

You will contribute to the transformation of AGU's exhibits, sponsorships, and advertising programs, to generate revenue and partnerships via sales and fulfillment of exhibit space, sponsorship, advertising, and promotional opportunities at our annual meeting and across a portfolio of specialized and partnered events. Additionally, you will support the centralization of AGU's advertising approach and, create bundled inventories of products that include content partners for our flagship multi-platform monthly science magazine Eos, and our weekly membership newsletter AGU Weekly, and section newsletters. You are responsible for working closely with the external exhibits and sponsorship sales vendor for AGU's two largest events to identify, recruit, and contract new leads, and cultivating and maintaining relationships with sponsors & exhibitors. You will also work closely with AGU's Development Team to support larger philanthropic and corporate opportunities and work with the Strategic Communications and Marketing Department to effectively respond to advertising and related revenue opportunities through AGU's digital properties. You will work directly with event partners including venues, logistics, exhibits, decorators, internal teams to execute meetings and events with a focus on fulfillment and evaluation of program efforts.
