**Description** ** _Summary:_**Assumes primary responsibility and 247 accountability for effectiveimplementation of nursing practice and operations for assigned areas; atCHRISTUS GSMC - Longview. The nurse manager affects departmental outcomesthrough interpretation, implementation, and evaluation of hospital anddepartmental philosophy, goals, policies, and procedures. Facilitates intraand interdepartmental communication and collaboration to promote excellence inpatient care, patient experience and patient outcomes. Effectively managesutilization of staff and material resources so that the most therapeuticallyeffective patient care is provided in a safe and cost effective manner.Promotes the professional development of patient care and administrativesupport staff assigned for areas.**_Responsibilities:_**• Participates in the establishment and implementation of yearly goals for theunits.• Monitors operations of the unit. Measures progress towards goals,identifying problems and taking corrective actions.• Serves as an advocate for patientsfamilies, assuring that patientfamilyrights are respected, patient satisfaction issues are addressed, andassociates adhere to the core values of the corporation.• Directs patient care in compliance with regulatory standards such as JointCommission and state licensure requirements.• Participates in the development, communication, and implementation ofnursing and organizational policy and procedure.• Participates on intra and interdepartmental committees and task forces whichare focused on improving patient care.• Collaborates with other Department Managers and Hospital Leadership toresolve unitstaff issues.• Participates and directs staff in hospital plans for emergency anddisasters.• Develops, communicates and updates unit(s), standards, protocols, policiesand procedures to meet trends in nursing practice and patient services.• Collaborates with Human Resources to recruit and hire qualified associates.• Counsels, guides, and disciplines associates to enhance patient care throughcompliance with established hospital policies and procedures.• Evaluates staff job performance on a timely basis and in a manner thatrecognizes associates accomplishments, enhances performance and facilitatesprofessional development.• Provides HR with information to maintain associate files with currentlicensure, credentialing records, certifications, orientation documentation,skills checklists, and continuing education requirements.• Facilitates and encourages staff participation in the professional practicemodel.• Confronts and resolves conflicts involving staff, physicians,patientsfamilies, interdepartmental and intra departmental issues.• Empowers associates through effective delegation, maintainingaccountability.• Directs and ensures staff participation in process improvement activitiesfor the unithospital.• Conducts regularly scheduled staff meetings which address unit issues,process improvement, and safety; Ensures staff meeting minutes are availableon a timely basis.• Establishes and enforces with staff a method for ongoing maintenance andupkeep of the unit supplies and equipment.• Maintains and ensures documentation of quality control aspects of theclinic(s) (e. g. POCT logs, refrigerator temps, etc which are required byJoint Commission)• Collaborates effectively with physicians, administrators, patients,families, other departments, and the community to provide quality patient careand enhance patient outcomes.• Maintains core staffing within established guidelines that assure patientsafety and considers skill mix and experience of staff.• Oversees daily staffing of the unit and collaborates with Lead Associates onthe development and revision of the staffing schedule.• Ensures assessment of competency of all associates as a part of theorientation program and on an ongoing basis.• Identifies, plans, develops andor arranges for programs to meet theeducationalskills needs of the associates upon hiring and on an ongoingbasis.• Identifies, plans, develops methods to meet the educational needs of thepatient population.• On an annual basis, contributes to the development of operating and capitalbudgets to meet the needs of the unit.• Assures effective and appropriate utilization of material and humanresources,• Reviews financial and productivity management reports and takes appropriateactions.• Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities ina manner that meets the age specific and developmental needs of patientsserved by the department.• Appropriately reviews patient assessment, treatment, andor care methodsperformed by nursing to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial,cultural, spiritual, age specific and other developmental needs of eachpatient served.• Demonstrates adherence to the Mission and CORE values of CHRISTUS HealthSystem.
