The Moran Company is pleased to partner with The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) to conduct a national search for the organization's Managing Director, Member Services.
General Background ICMA is the leading organization of local government professionals dedicated to creating and sustaining thriving communities throughout the world. Founded as The City Managers' Association in 1914 and renamed in 1991, ICMA serves over 14,000 members, providing support through professional development programs, research, publications, and training. ICMA promotes ethical conduct through its Code of Ethics and has expanded its global strategies to become a leading voice in local government abroad.
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., ICMA has a remote staff of approximately 100. The Managing Director, Member Services position reports to the CEO/Executive Director and manages a professional staff of 18, focusing on global membership growth and retention, and oversight of ICMA's Ethics Program.
Key Responsibilities The Managing Director, Member Services develops and implements strategies to deliver services and benefits to all segments of ICMA's membership. Responsibilities include:
Evaluating and implementing opportunities to strengthen member services programming and membership value.Providing oversight of all membership programs, benefits, and services.Building and maintaining strong relationships with members and stakeholders.Monitoring and assessing member feedback.Developing and executing a strategic plan to increase and diversify membership.Using data-driven approaches to improve membership and engagement.Collecting and analyzing membership data and trends.Selecting, managing, and developing staff, setting team goals and initiatives.Managing team budget for membership benefits and service programs.Directing the creation and implementation of career advancement strategies.Providing technical advice on local government policies and operations.Leading the development of partnerships with other organizations.Participating in conference planning and training events.Creating and managing content for communication channels.Advising the CEO/Executive Director on operational plans.Collaborating with the ICMA Executive Board committees on policy development.Candidate Qualifications Master's degree in public administration, public policy, business administration, or related discipline.8 or more years of progressive leadership experience in association management or local government management at a senior level.Essential Knowledge/Skills Self-motivated leader with effective strategy development skills.Experience operating within a global business model.Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills.Strong business acumen and integrity.Expertise in strategic project and operations management.Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Proficiency with computer operations software and Microsoft Office Suite.Compensation and Benefits The salary range for the Managing Director, Member Services position is $170,000 to $180,000, DOQ. ICMA offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, and a 403(b) retirement plan.
