The Managing Director, New Initiatives leads Lili ? uokalani Trust's (LT) priority initiatives and projects. This role involves research, designing implementation, developing cost-benefit analysis, project coordination, and collaborating with teams to implement the executive team's highest priority initiatives. The New Initiatives department will oversee project management, capital project implementation, and execution design. Acting as a liaison among leadership and stakeholders, the Managing Director, New Initiatives will ensure initiatives align with LT's vision and Strategic Plan.
Works directly with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to carry out the executives' priority projects.Works closely with various departments, such as Team Services, Risk & Compliance, Research, Evaluation, and Data Science, and Program & Practice Development and Programs, to assess the impact of new initiatives on target beneficiaries and establish measurable outcomes.Supervises the project implementation team, providing direction and assistance in crafting strategies, tactics, and project plans to ensure ongoing advancement and alignment with LT's mission and vision.Supports the formulation of operational planning and annual budgets for each demonstration project, optimizing resources and efficiency among teammates, stakeholders, and external partners.Acts as a senior change agent, responsible for developing and implementing new program initiatives.Prepares and manages operational budgets for the New Initiatives team, including evaluating and approving expenses, identifying budget adjustment needs, and responsibly handling the Queen's resources.Works with the executive team, senior management, Kipuka teammates, and external advisors to craft strategies and execute high-level projects.Researches external organizations to learn best practices from leading institutions.Promotes and manages the testing of innovation projects through LT's Innovation Team.Identifies and addresses project risks and develops backup plans.Hires expert consultants when needed.Performs other duties as assigned by the COO.Other duties: Ensures direct reports receive coaching and participate in professional growth opportunities that enable them to provide excellent service in the present and future and that contribute to their job satisfaction.Contributes to LT's success through collaboration, communication, and knowledge-sharing with all teammates to improve team and organizational results.Qualifications Bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of progressive leadership responsibility and a record of accomplishment in communications, public affairs or related field, of which at least 5 years involve direct people management and supervision.At least 5 years of direct experience working on projects and/or project management.At least 10 years of experience working with diverse communities and stakeholders is required.Transparency: Openly share knowledge and insights with teammates.Accountability: Be responsible for your actions and decisions to ensure the department meets its commitments and supports organizational goals.Collaboration: Effectively interact with youth, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams.Active Listener: Listen actively and value others' opinions to create an environment of mutual respect and understanding.Ethical Practice: Exhibit the highest level of ethical behavior, integrity, and social responsibility.Communication: Convey and receive information and ideas clearly.Cultural Competence: Respect and relate well to people from varied backgrounds.Relationship Management: Experience working in a collaborative environment with staff at all levels.Interpersonal Skills: Ability to perform well under pressure and stay calm and composed when faced with challenging situations.Alignment with Queen's legacy: Understanding and appreciation of Queen Liliuokalani's story, her legacy and the Hawaiian Culture is foundational to staff's commitment to working with our Hawaiian children, families and communities.Ho`omau i ka `imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement): Committed to creating and reinforcing an environment of continuous learning and improvement.Ho`ike i na Mana`o Pono (Effective Communication): Communicates with those we serve and each other in a consistent manner that results in mutual understanding, harmony, and action.No'ono'o loi (Critical Thinking and Problem Solving): Actively and skillfully understands, conceptualizes, applies, analyzes, synthesizes, and/or evaluates information.Ho'o kumu a'e or `Imi hakuhia (Innovation): Identifies and integrates creative ideas into new or existing services.Pilina Ho`ohana a me ka Hana Hilina`i (Building Relationships and Creating Trust): Manages relationships to create optimal opportunities and move the organization forward.Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork): Works cooperatively and collaboratively with others throughout the organization.Ho`onui I ka `Ike (Capacity Building): Encourages personal growth by exhibiting trust and a belief in the capacity of others.Job Title: Managing Director, New Initiatives
