An Instructional Tutor assists in providing individual and small group tutoring services to BCCC students. Instructional Tutors provide students with pre-tutoring assessments to identify the student's weakness and design an individualized learning plan. Math Tutors assist students individually or in small groups and help them improve their math skills. These instructors perform activities like developing tutoring resources, monitoring student progress, identifying areas needing improvement, helping with homework and preparing students for tests. Please note the position will be in-person, on campus. Responsibilities/Duties Essential Functions: Provide individual and small group tutoring to BCCC students in content areas; Assist with assessing the academic needs of the students and developing plans for remediation; Provide guidance on effective learning strategies to maximize the student's potential for academic progress and assist them in becoming successful, independent learners; Communicate student progress to faculty and to the Tutoring Manager; Maintain documentation on student remediation plan, process and success; Develop resources and practice materials for use in tutoring sessions; Keep regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions using designated software and/or relevant forms; Provide evaluations and other reports as requested by the CAA Director; Attend tutor training and required meetings; Complete and return reports of tutoring sessions in an accurate and timely manner; Report any problems or concerns to the CAA Director immediately; Follow all BCCC policies; establish credibility with the student and staff; and behave in accordance with the College's values and expectations; Perform related duties as required Required Skills Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; Ability to understand and respond to oral and written instructions and ideas; Ability to interpret, apply and communicate discipline concepts; Effective time management and organizational skills; Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with colleagues, faculty, staff and students; Ability to meet deadlines; Knowledge of tutoring concepts and their applications; Ability to select and implement tutoring strategies, methods, and procedures based on student needs; Ability to observe and accurately assess and respond to student needs; Must have proficient computer skills, including MS Office suite, advanced information technology skills, and knowledge of instructional technology. Required Qualifications Minimum Education and Training Requirements: Experience in tutoring and/or teaching at the college level; Equivalent combinations of experience and education may also receive consideration; Minimum GPA of 3.0; Instructor recommendation; Peer tutors must be enrolled in at least six credits; Benefits: BCCC is both a higher education institution and a State of Maryland agency.
