Position: Mechanical Development Engineer Shift: 2nd Shift Pay: $85,000 - $95,000/year (Based on Experience) Location: Richmond, VA Type: Direct Hire What You'll Be Doing: Step into an exciting role where you'll design and develop cutting-edge, high-tonnage crane systems for the railroad recovery and service divisions. As part of our innovative engineering team, you'll work alongside mechanical engineers and shop personnel, balancing R&D with hands-on manufacturing support. \n Key Responsibilities:Engineer reimagined crane structures to enhance performance, durability, and safety.Rapidly prototype solutions using virtual modeling for optimal outcomes.Tackle technical challenges, independently or collaboratively, to deliver innovative solutions.Balance functional needs and physical constraints to achieve high-quality designs.Adapt to changing project timelines and support critical, time-sensitive rebuilds and designs.Ensure safety and adherence to all protocols while performing duties. What You'll Bring:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; EIT or PE preferred.Strong mechanical engineering background with knowledge of electrical systems and electronics.3-6 years of experience with SolidWorks or similar parametric modeling software (CSWP or CSWA preferred).Expertise in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and engineering hand calculations.Proven ability to solve complex engineering problems and think creatively.Strong research skills to source suppliers/vendors.Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel.Excellent organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.Adaptability to changing priorities and timelines.Strong communication and teamwork skills for clear, concise collaboration with peers and vendors.A proactive mindset to anticipate challenges and problem-solve effectively.Commitment to safety protocols and the ability to work well under pressure. Physical Demands & Certifications:Must be comfortable with occasional shop floor visits, climbing equipment, and resolving in-progress work issues.Valid Driver's License and E-Rail Safe certification required (additional certifications to be obtained as needed).Travel required approximately 5-10%.Occasional extended hours and emergency calls as needed.
