Job Description SUMMARY
Infrastructure
Serves as lead Mechanical Engineer on special project teams.
Designs, reviews and comments on the most complex designs for mechanical systems involving facilities construction, expansion of current sites, retro-fittings, and additions.
Investigates, identifies, and develops resolutions to a wide range of highly complex mechanical problems as they affect rail equipment, systems, and facilities.
Identifies guidelines and prepares procedures to ensure the proper maintenance of Authority's mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems/equipment.
Recommends alternative methods and/or equipment to improve safety, maintainability, reliability, and cost effectiveness of the diverse and complex systems in the MARTA transit system.
Monitors the preparation of drawings and specifications and construction related activities of the General Engineering Consultant or other contractor on new facilities construction and existing facilities expansion, addition and retrofit.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Infrastructure
Serves as lead Mechanical Engineer on special project teams.
Initiates and provides highly complex mechanical systems designs for new facilities construction and current facilities expansion, addition, and retrofit.
Prepares, modifies, and/or directs the preparation and/or modification of highly complex engineering documentation, specifications, manuals, etc., to support Office of Engineering activities. Provides technical support and engineering assistance in problem solving, equipment/systems design, redesign, and/or retrofit programs to correct equipment or system deficiencies or achieve state-of-the-art standards as changing technology permits.
Provides technical support during facilities construction and assists in the preparation and administration of systems/equipment contracts.
Assists other areas in preparation of technical specification as needed. Updates system design criteria and standard drawings, policies, and guide specifications.
Identifies guidelines and prepares procedures to ensure the proper maintenance of Authority's mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems/equipment.
Reviews changes to criteria and assures that approved changes are incorporated into the appropriate documents.
Monitors the preparation of drawings and specifications and construction related activities of the General Engineering Consultant or other contractor on new facilities construction and existing facilities expansion, addition and retrofit.
Reviews drawings and specifications for new facilities and retrofits of existing facilities that are prepared by outside consultants.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Infrastructure
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field is required.
Eight years of progressively responsible mechanical engineering experience in equipment/systems design, redesign, and/or retrofit programs.
Must have knowledge of and experience in one or more of the following areas: large scale facility design and construction, design, redesign, or retrofit of mechanical system/equipment.
Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Must have highly effective problem solving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required.
Experience in rapid rail transit is highly desirable.
Must be proficient in the use of AutoCad.
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia or the ability to obtain Georgia registration via reciprocity within six months is required for positions in Infrastructure.
A Master's degree may be substituted for two years of experience.
