Air Squared Manufacturing, Inc. is a leading designer and manufacturer of scroll type compressors and vacuum pumps for the medical, automotive, aerospace, fuel cell and power generation industries. Our company focuses on challenging, new applications which require unique solutions and outside of the box thinking. Working closely with our customers allows us to design a completely customized solution that fits their exact needs.
Air Squared is aggressively pursuing the compressors used in auxiliary air systems on board fully electric trucks and buses. Newly developed liquid cooled scroll compressor technology has shown to offer a step change in pressure capability for oil free compressors.
Scroll compressors are unique in that their designs include a variety of Mechanical Engineering specialties to fully understand the working principles. These specialties include:
Heat Transfer:

Understanding of heat transfer principles is necessary to manage thermal effects during scroll device operation. This knowledge is crucial for optimizing compressor reliability and performance by designing for efficient heat dissipation.
Thermodynamics:

A solid understanding of thermodynamics is essential for analyzing the compression process within scroll devices. This knowledge will be applied to optimize compressor performance metrics like efficiency and discharge temperature.
Mechanics of Materials:

A strong understanding of material properties is essential for selecting appropriate materials for scroll devices we fabricate at Air Squared. This knowledge will be applied to ensure component strength, durability, and performance.
Dynamics & Statics:

The ability to analyze scroll device operation using principles of dynamics and statics is crucial. This includes calculating bearing loads, shaft deflections, and performing static balancing of scroll compressors.
Fluid Dynamics:

Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software is required to analyze compressible flow in our scroll devices. You will use this skillset to optimize factors like cooling and pressure drop.
The job will include testing of new scroll compressors and vacuum pump designs. We are seeking a Mechanical Test Engineer who is driven, organized, hands on, works well with others, and has good attention to detail.
Responsibilities will include:
Focused Responsibilities: Scroll Compressor Testing
Design and Build : Develop and fabricate test stands specifically designed for evaluating scroll compressor performance
Equipment Expertise:

Select and Install appropriate test equipment (pressure transducers, flow meters, temperature sensors, etc.) and ensure proper installation for accurate data collection
Test, Analyze, Improve:

Conduct comprehensive performance testing of scroll compressor prototypes, diagnose issues, and recommend solutions
Data Acquisition Automation:

Program and utilize LabVIEW to automate data acquisition from test equipment and analyze scroll compressor performance metrics
Additional Responsibilities:
Perform other duties related to scroll compressor testing as assigned by management
Qualifications :
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience with a proven track record in testing
1-2 years of professional experience in a related field, or independent projects that demonstrate engineering capability
U.S. Citizenship (or ability to legally work in the US)
Highly Preferred Qualifications:
Background in programming (Python, Ladder Logic, EES, MATLAB, etc.)
Hands-on experience such as wiring, soldering, fabrication, or mechanical repairs
Experience using LabVIEW for data acquisition and analysis
Demonstrated skill for troubleshooting using instruments such a thermal imager, DMM, oscilloscope, etc.
Demonstrated capability for independent projects
Experience designing, troubleshooting, or maintaining electronic systems
Capabilities in advanced measurements such as vibrational analysis, advanced use of oscilloscopes, etc.
Background in automotive product development or management
Proficiency in using a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, such as SolidWorks or similar program, to understand and interpret test stand designs
Familiarity with Controller Area Network (CAN) bus
Soft Skills:
Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills: Test engineers need to be able to identify the root cause of issues and develop effective test cases
Strong communication skills: Being able to clearly communicate test results, findings, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences is essential
Attention to detail: A keen eye for detail is crucial for identifying even minor bugs or inconsistencies in software behavior
Teamwork and collaboration skills: Test engineers often work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders
Adaptability and willingness to learn: The software development landscape constantly evolves, so the ability to learn new tools and technologies is important
How to Apply:
Pay Range: $75,000 - $85,000/year based on experience and qualifications.
