OVERVIEW:
The Medical Assistant I (MA I)support the delivery of urological services, performs work as required andfunctions as an effective member of the AUS interdisciplinary team.
The MedicalAssistant I is tasked to perform routine administrative and clinical tasks tokeep the medical offices running smoothly.
This position collaborates/work withstaff within their SBU or other professional disciplines within the AUSaffiliated medical groups as needed to achieve effective and efficient patientcare delivery and the desired patient outcomes.
Depending on the size of anSBU, the job duties may vary.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/NATURE ANDSCOPE:
The Medical Assistant I will have thefollowing accountabilities (but are not limited to):
1.
The MA I will performvarious administrative and clinical duties under the direction of their assigneddirect supervisor within their SBU.
2.
The MA I will consistentlyconfer with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate andschedule appointments of patients.
3.
Greets and prepare patientsfor their assigned SBU Physician.
4.
Performs the followingclinical duties as necessary:
a.
Measures and records vitalsigns
b.
Records patient interview,history, and chief complaint
c. Provides patient educationwith regards to medications, management of diseases, home treatments andspecial diets
d. Prepares patients forexaminations and performs routing screening tests
e. Assists physicians withexams
f. Phlebotomy and collection ofother lab specimens
g. Performs basic lab test
h. Performs EKG's
i.
Assists with X-ray and physiciantherapy procedures
j.
Prepares and administersmedications with physician authorization
k. Changes dressings, appliesbandages, removes sutures and other first aid procedures
l. Uses CPR skills whennecessary
m. Prepares accurate, legal,and ethical documentation at all times
5.
Make sure that the office isopened in the morning and closed in the afternoon (Closing and Openingresponsibilities attached)
6.
Assist in maintainingpatient logs for the following:
a.
Lab requests, CT scans andother treatment orders for the patients
b.
Prescription ledger whenneeded
7.
Maintaining the back officewith good flow
a.
Keeping rooms full
b.
Assist with room turnover
c. New patient thorough work-up(x-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanation)
d. Adding medical history onall new patients and update all established patients' history in InPracSysaccurately.
e. Accurate and complete roomset-up for physician
f. Ensures that all patientsmedication is updated in InPracSys before the physicians sees patients

Set-up for in officeSurgical procedures
a.
Appropriate consentcompleted correctly avoiding the use of too many medical abbreviations withinthe consent forms
b.
Room set-up complete
9.
Scribe as assigned perphysician office flow
10.
Preparation for seeingpatients the following day
a.
Patient confirmations forfollowing day
11.
Completes patient medicalrecord requests when necessary
12.
Maintaining controls forthe UA and PSA machine for offices that have these devices available
13.
Assist with otheradministrative projects and tasks as needed.
14.
Ensures proper hand off ofresponsibilities once their task is completed
15.
Meets establishedattendance criteria and starts work promptly.

Regularly adheres andsupports compliance and accreditation efforts as assigned including, but notlimited to OSHA, HIPAA & CMS guidelines for Parts C & D on GeneralCompliance and Fraud, Waste & Abuse.
22.
Performs other positionrelated duties as assigned
EDUCATION &CERTIFICATION:
Graduate from a recognizedcollege or university with an Associate's Degree in Applied Science and/or aProgrammatically Accredited Medical Assisting Education.
CPR certification isrequired.
Yearly OSHA and CLIA training will also be required.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS ANDABILITIES:
The MA I must have a minimum of1-year experience in a physician office setting preferably within the urologyspecialty.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Proficientinterpersonal relations skills.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual should have the knowledge of: Internet Software;Word Processing Software (Microsoft Word); Electronic Mail Software (MicrosoftOutlook); Electronic Health Records (EMR Software); Practice ManagementSoftware (AllScripts)
