They provide patient care services in the back office urgent care setting, which will meet the specific needs of the patient.Essential Education, Experience and Skills:Employed in all states other than ArizonaEducation: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; and1. The medical assistant candidate has completed an APPROVED Medical Assistant Training Program*.Certification is not required but is preferred."Approved medical assistant training program," means a program accredited by one of the following two-accreditation organizations:The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health; orThe Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES); orThe U.S. Department of Education DAPIP2. The medical assistant candidate has completed an UNAPPROVED medical assistant training program ANDCertification* is required.Successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the following two agencies:National Commission for Certifying Agencies; orAmerican National Standards Institute; orCertifying organizations accepted are:American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - administers the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and certification; orAmerican Medical Technologists (AMT) – provides the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam and certification to individuals who have completed the AMT criteria; orNational Healthcareer Association (NHA)-administers the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam and certification3.
