We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Medical Assistant with casting experience to join our team.
In this role, you will support orthopedic surgeons and medical professionals in providing exceptional patient care.
Key responsibilities include applying, removing, and maintaining casts, splints, and durable medical equipment (DME) under the guidance of surgeons, as well as keeping the cast room and exam rooms organized.
Certification is a plus.


You'll also prepare patients for physician visits, assist with procedures, respond to inquiries from patients, physicians, pharmacies, and workers' compensation adjusters, complete necessary paperwork, schedule tests, and perform additional duties as needed.
Collaboration with other medical assistants in the sub-specialty area is essential to ensure a positive patient experience.
This position is perfect for those with a strong background in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, and who are committed to promoting patient well-being.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Applications of casts and splints removal of casts Fit patients for DME Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are properly stocked with necessary supplies Apply and remove casts, braces, and other orthopedic devices as directed by medical staff Maintain accurate patient records and documentation Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care Cleans exam rooms to prepare for the next patient, preparing the room with necessary instruments and supplies.
Displays charts for physician to reference for each appointment.
Greets patients and escorts them from the waiting room to the exam rooms and back to check-out after exam.
Assists physicians during examinations and minor procedures, including suture/stitch removal and dressing application/removal, and cast and splint application/removal, etc.
Documents all patient correspondence in NextGen.
Sends tasks to MRI, Physical Therapy and Surgery Schedulers as necessary.
Approves pharmacy requests for prescription refills according to physician's protocol.
Ensures that laboratory samples are picked up by the reference laboratory.
Sanitizes and shuts down sterilization equipment at the end of the day.
Provides internal office staff, workers' compensation adjusters, and/or case managers with work status reports and other clinical information as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE: Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology Previous experience working in a hospital or clinical setting is highly desirable Familiarity with orthopedic equipment and devices Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to provide compassionate patient service Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively Experience with an EMR (NextGen preferred) Knowledge of medical terminology and Current Procedure Terminology (CPT) and ICD-10 codes Working knowledge of managed care basics EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High School degree required CMA certificate preferred Orthopedics training preferred CPR certification preferred High school diploma or equivalent required; certification as an Orthopedic Technician preferred
