This position is full time (40 hours/week) Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 6:00am - 6:00pm. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.
Our office is located at 19191 S. Vermont Aven, El Segundo, CA. Employees will be required to work 1 - 2 days onsite and remainder days from home.
We offer 1 week of paid training. The hours during training will be 6:00am – 6:00pm, Monday - Friday. Training will be conducted onsite.

Primary Responsibilities:
Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate Optum's commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer
Documents calls as clearly and precisely at the time of call
Maintains department productivity standards: 42 accounts daily
Performs collection activities on assigned work files according to department procedures
Maintains proper aging of accounts receivable
Performs precise audits of patient accounts to ensure accuracy of charges, payments and adjustments
Monitors payments to ensure payers conform to agreed fee schedules. Contacts patients and insurance carriers regarding delinquent accounts
Demonstrates special ability in dealing with patients regarding sensitive financial matters and recapturing unpaid balances
Negotiates payment plans
Identifies delinquent accounts for assignment to outside collection agencies
Uses, protects, and discloses Optum patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
Performs additional duties as assigned
Claims Management:
Reviewing and submitting insurance claims.
Ensuring that claims are accurate and complete to avoid denials.
Following up on unpaid or denied claims and resubmitting them when necessary.
Payment Collection:
Contacting patients and insurance companies to collect outstanding balances.
Setting up payment plans for patients who cannot pay the full amount at once.
Ensuring that payments are received and accurately recorded.
Account Reconciliation:
Monitoring patient accounts to ensure payments are applied correctly.
Reconciling accounts to resolve discrepancies.
Reviewing accounts for any unpaid balances or errors and taking corrective actions.

High School Diploma / GED
Must be 18 years of age OR older
1+ years of medical collection experience within the last 2 years
1+ years of experience with Account Reconciliation
1+ years of experience in professional billing/collections
Experience with multi-specialties (ie surgical/procedures).
Experience with CPT/ICD-10 coding
Knowledge of HCFA requirements
Working knowledge of contracted insurance plans
Working knowledge of current state and federal laws governing collections
Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, etc.
Ability to work in a hybrid role (remote and 1-2x per week in our El Segundo office)

Preferred Qualifications:
1+ years of experience in a medical collections role
Knowledge of California industrial fee schedule billing requirements
Bilingual fluency in English / Spanish

Reside within commutable distance of El Segundo, CA
Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy

California Residents Only: The hourly range for this is $16.00 - $28.27 per hour. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
