Job Summary The Medical Director, Neurology-Interventional (Medical Director) is responsible for all aspects of the Neuro Interventional Program operations. The Medical Director is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of the Neurointerventional Program throughout Cook County Health (CCH) and working towards building a comprehensive stroke program at Stroger Hospital and forming clinical relationships with community hospitals in the greater Chicago area, in collaboration with the Division and Department Chairs. The Medical Director actively participates in performance improvement activities which impact patient care and clinical outcomes by identifying opportunities for quality improvement; defines processes to improve efficiency and outcome measures; identifies resources, acquires equipment, and maintains inventory control; initiates strategies to improve procedural billing processes, develop and implement protocols to streamline care, and improve patient throughput.

General Administrative Responsibilities Collective Bargaining Review applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and consult with Labor Relations to generate management proposals Participate in collective bargaining negotiations, caucus discussions, and working meetings Document, recommend, and effectuate discipline at all levels Work closely with labor relations and/or labor counsel to effectuate and enforce applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements Initiate, authorize, and complete disciplinary action pursuant to CCH system rules, policies, procedures, and provisions of applicable collective bargaining agreements Supervision Direct and effectuate CCH management policies and practices Access and proficiently navigate CCH records system to obtain and review information necessary to execute provisions of applicable collective bargaining agreements Management Contribute to the management of CCH staff and CCH's systemic development and success Discuss and develop CCH system policies and procedures Consistently use independent judgment to identify operational staffing issues and needs and perform necessary functions; hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, direct, or discipline employees pursuant to applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements Work with Labor Relations to discern past practice when necessary Typical Duties Provides Clinical and Administrative leadership of the Neurointerventional Program in CCH to ensure optimal clinical, educational, and sound business operations. Provides direct patient care and consultations for stroke and neuro endovascular patients in the inpatient and outpatient sites for CCH. Collaborates with Stroke providers to build stroke program, including stroke clinic and telestroke program, to provide the highest level of care to stroke patients at CCH. Participates in or leads structured quality improvement activities related to the hospital function, as assigned. Collaborates with the Stroke Coordinator to oversee quality improvement (QI) projects and disseminates pertinent information to respective departments. Maintains an active clinical load of at least 70%. Supervises all staff involved in Neurointerventional service. Performs and interprets Neurointerventional procedures. Responsible to ensure that the attending physician and advanced practice providers schedules are optimized for Neurointerventional patient volumes throughout CCH. Initiates strategies to improve procedural billing processes, develop and implement protocols to streamline care, and improve patient throughput. Works with management and other leadership to maximize efficiency and utilization of staff and Neurointerventional room resources. Works with Division Chair to maintain up-to-date clinical privilege profiles that accurately reflect the scope of services delivered by credentialed providers. Assists with performing Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations, as well as ad hoc training that might be necessary prior to introduction and use of new equipment, new procedures, or variations on existing equipment/procedures into the Neurointerventional service. Collaborates with Neurosciences leadership to identify resources, areas of potential growth, and determine equipment and inventory needs per budget cycle for programmatic growth. Ensures that all scopes, accessories, and instruments undergo appropriate disinfection based on the recommendations of Institutional Infection Control Committee's recommendations. Works with staff and leadership to develop protocols pertaining to Neurointerventional procedures. Collaborates with the Department of Anesthesiology in developing and implementing new protocols pertaining to Neurointerventional procedures. Leads efforts to eliminate unnecessary or duplicative testing/treatment to reduce cost of care. Ensures that the Neurointerventional program meets all Local, State, Federal and Accreditation rules, regulations, and scope of practice standards. Actively participates in root cause analyses and reviews of serious safety events, near misses, and patient safety net reports. Serves as a role model in consistently providing effective and compassionate patient care; adhering to policies; and manifesting respectful and professional behavior, scholarly inquiry, and commitment to self- and institutional improvement. Regularly attends and participates in divisional and departmental administrative meetings. Promotes a culture of safety by identifying and reporting any safety concerns. Encourages reporting of and corrective actions for safety events and near misses. Markets the program throughout CCH, local communities, and nationally. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) Degree from an accredited medical college, university, or foreign equivalent Must be Licensed as a Physician in the State of Illinois by start of employment Must be cleared for privileges by Medical Staff Services by start of employment Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in Neurology Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Neurointerventional Three (3) years of experience as an attending physician in the treatment of stroke and neurointerventional patients Two (2) years of experience in administering clinical, educational, and/or quality improvement programs in Stroke or Neurointerventional Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Working knowledge developing and implementing clinical research protocols and managing the regulatory requirements of these studies Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups Strong interpersonal and empathy skills Demonstrate clinical research skills and techniques for extracting and reporting information Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict management/resolution skills Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and precision in decision making Demonstrate the ability to teach, educate Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and research grant programs Ability to bring disparate groups, goals, and objectives together under one operating "umbrella" Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and stressful environment Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure when challenged Ability to function autonomously and as a team member in a multidisciplinary team Ability to train by presenting concepts and demonstrating tasks Physical and Environmental Demands This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department-specific safety requirements. This includes but is not limited to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department-specific engineering and work practice controls and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital-wide policy and departmental procedures.
