Medical Director Of Pulmonary Critical Care

The Medical Director shall be responsible for fulfilling all duties reasonably assigned to the office of the Chief of the Division of Pulmonary / Critical Care, consistent with the Hospitals Medical Staff Organizational Documents.

Specific duties of the Medical Director shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
Support and collaborate with the Hospital in the development and implementation of the Hospitals administrative and operational policies and procedures relating to the delivery of Pulmonary / Critical Care services, as well as assuring overall compliance with regulations and programs of any and all regulatory bodies having jurisdiction over the Hospital and/or Pulmonary / Critical Care Services and participation in relevant components of surveys/accreditation/certification processes.
Assure that physicians delivering Pulmonary / Critical Care services operate in accordance with Hospitals Medical Staff Organizational Documents, relevant Pulmonary / Critical Care societal requirements, and any Hospital policies applicable to medical staff members in general.
Administer over all Pulmonary / Critical Care related physician/provider call schedules to ensure required coverage of off hour Pulmonary / Critical Care services to the Hospital.
Serve as a liaison to referring physicians on behalf of and to the betterment of SMG Pulmonary / Critical Care services.
Support the Hospital in coordination of quality assurance, resource utilization, and patient care evaluation and throughput activities in connection with the delivery of SMG Pulmonary / Critical Care services.
Support the Hospital in achieving patient satisfaction standards and improvement strategies.
Provide follow up to patient or physician complaints/suggestions related to delivery of Pulmonary / Critical Care services.
Coordinate physician review panels to provide clinical evaluation support to the Hospital regarding Pulmonary / Critical Care medical equipment and supply decisions.
Assist the Hospital in the ongoing development of new and/or enhanced evidence-based Pulmonary / Critical Care services and procedures.
Conduct educational seminars related to the delivery of Pulmonary / Critical Care services for Hospital staff (medical, administrative, and technical), community groups, and/or physician groups.
Promote the overall operational wellness of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical care.
Identify areas of strategic growth or recession in the Division and, in coordination with appropriate administration, create and/or discontinue solutions and service lines.
Hire and participate in orientation of new Pulmonary and Critical Care physicians and APPs, and make recommendations per HR policies for staffing changes based on the needs of the division.
Work with ancillary and nonclinical staff to create strategies to optimize nonclinical care and flow for our outpatient, inpatient, and procedural work.
Provide recommendations for policies and procedures pertaining to the delivery of pulmonary and critical care services in conjunction with Hospital administration to include respiratory care services, pulmonary function lab, and pulmonary clinics.
Develop and implement standardized protocols for inpatient and outpatient procedures.
Manage Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care call schedules.
Implement rules and regulations within the Division which promote Hospitals goals and contribute to the overall operational wellness of the Division.
Review compliance of Division physicians and APPs with Hospitals HR requirements, rules and regulations, and CME/Board Requirements.
Implement disciplinary action as deemed appropriate for Division Physicians and Staff in compliance with administration and Hospitals rules, system requirements, and best practices.
Coordinate with other Hospital Directors and Section Chiefs to optimize policies and protocols of care for patients.
Attend meetings which concern and/or affect the Division and give input as deemed appropriate.
Evaluate and make recommendations for the purchase of new equipment/tools for the Division in its respective clinical areas.
Coordinate and appropriately delegate the work of the Division in interaction with all pertinent ACGME programs and medical schools to train and develop housestaff and learners in accordance with their respective governing bodies educational plans.
Establish and maintain relationships with tertiary care centers in the Chicagoland area in an effort to escalate care for patients if needed.
Promote policies and procedures that are in line with Best Practices of Hospitals Physicians, APPs, and staff within the division in accordance with evidence-based guidelines and Hospital rules and regulations.
Delegate components of these administrative responsibilities to members of the Division as appropriate based on their areas of expertise and needs of the division.
