Job Description - Medical Lab Scientist II, Chemistry - Evening (3310336) Shift: 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM

CLIA Role: Testing Personnel General Supervisor (High Complexity Testing)
The Medical Laboratory Scientist II (MLS II) may perform waived and non-waived testing under general supervision. Each individual performs only those tests authorized by the Laboratory Director and requires skills commensurate with their education, training, or experience. The MLS II carries out all policies and performs all tests in accordance with the laboratory's standard operating procedures, assuring accurate results and records.
Essential Functions (Key Roles & Responsibilities) Must be accessible to test personnel at all times testing is performed and provide on-site consultation to resolve technical problems.Responsible for providing day-to-day supervision of high-complexity test performance by qualified testing personnel.Must be on-site to provide direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed by individuals qualified before 1/19/1993.Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytical performance.Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records.Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies and document all quality control activities.Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting and notify the appropriate supervisor.Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.Additional Responsibilities: Performs qualitative and quantitative tests using instruments and/or manual methods on blood, plasma, and other body fluids.Prepares samples and reagents for testing according to laboratory policies.Operates all instruments/analyzers per established procedures.Performs routine maintenance, function checks, or calibrations on equipment.Recognizes instrument malfunctions and performs troubleshooting and repair as needed.Performs quality control for all reagents and instruments according to policies.Ensures the accuracy, interpretation, and reporting of test results.Identifies aberrant patient test results and takes appropriate action.Participates in QA/QI activities as required.Participates in Proficiency Testing program.Completes orientation, training, and competency for all applicable instruments/methods.Participates in training/orientation of new employees or students.May assist leadership with planning, organizing, and prioritizing work duties.May provide daily supervision and assistance to technical and non-technical staff.Documents errors using the hospital Safety Reporting System.Adheres to hospital and laboratory policies and procedures.Performs clerical and support services as needed.Monitors reagent and supplies, orders as needed.Performs any other duties as required.QUALIFICATIONS Education: Must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Chemical, Physical, or Biological science from an accredited college or university.
Licenses and Certifications: ASCP certification or equivalent (e.g., AMT) is required.
Work Experience: Clinical Laboratory experience of 2 or more years is required.
