Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist - Medical Technologist (MT) performs complex medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses to provide data for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Performs routine and highly specialized laboratory tests according to laboratory standards, policies and procedures.
3. *Analyzes test results and enters data into the computer using laboratory standards, policies, and procedures.
4. *Performs and analyzes quality control measures to ensure accurate clinical data; analyzes unacceptable quality control results and troubleshoots shifts or trends as necessary.
5. *Maintains competency and proficiency on all laboratory instrumentation and procedures; performs and documents preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment, troubleshooting problems as necessary; responsible for comparison and analysis of new tests and instruments.
6. *Communicates with clients, coworkers, and leadership, transmitting appropriate ideas, information, and opinions clearly and concisely; maintains employee, patient, client, and corporate confidentiality.
7. *Performs general housekeeping tasks to maintain work area order; ensures adequate supplies are maintained in work area.
8. *Participate in cross-training across all laboratory sections and locations.
9. *Trains new employees and students; evaluates students' clinical and technical abilities; assists in writing training guidelines and checklists for new hires and students.
10. *Completes all work timely, thoroughly and according to established quality standards.
11. *Completes all mandatory safety training and follows all safety guidelines per written protocols.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science which includes clinical rotation as part of the program or Bachelors in Science in a related field and an additional year of MT/MLS clinical rotation required or meets the requirements and has acquired the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) certification as an MT/MLS as outlined on the ASCP website.
