Position Highlights: Position: Medical Laboratory Technician - FT - evenings - Microbiology Location: Northwest Community Hospital Full Time/Part Time: Full Time Hours: Monday-Friday, 2pm-10:30pm, e/o weekend and rotating holidays What you will need: License: Education: MLT certification or equivalent with an Associate's degree in clinical laboratory science.
Bachelor's degree in a health science plus minimum one year experience in a laboratory.
High school graduates who received appropriate training as defined under CLIA guidelines and were performing high complexity testing at Northwest Community Hospital on or before April 24, 1995 and can document such training and will work under the direct supervision of an onsite supervisor.
Certification: MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent and ongoing active certification is strongly preferred. Experience: Minimum 1 year Lab related.
Experience in quality assurance, troubleshooting issues in Microbiology preferred.
Skills: Essential Functions: Performs moderate complexity testing and, if applicable, high complexity testing accurately and efficiently.
Follows lab procedures carefully.
Receives blood and other patient specimens.
Accurately labels, numbers, and routes specimens and their associated paperwork and computer records.
Performs laboratory procedures as assigned by the Supervisor; accurately performs routine and special laboratory tests according to procedure manuals and records their results; evaluates test results, including normal and abnormal results which require notification, documentation, and/or verification.
Maintains operational level of equipment, cleans when needed, and reports all malfunctioning equipment to team facilitator; performs and records maintenance procedures and basic troubleshooting.
Performs test procedures on quality control specimens, records their results, takes corrective action when indicated, and notifies supervisor when results are out of control; participates in quality assurance programs.
Updates knowledge of hospital and laboratory information system hardware and software as needed to perform assigned duties; troubleshoots and communicates problems to supervisor.
Follows all security procedures concerning confidential patient information, both written and computerized.
Maintains adequate level of supplies, restocks as needed, and notifies supervisor of inventory needs; checks in and documents use of new reagents as needed.
Assists in training new employees.
Communicates problems and suggestions for improvements to section supervisor.
Assumes responsibility for own professional growth by attending continuing education classes, seminars, and by reading professional journals.
Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
