UW Veterinary Care is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated team player to join our veterinary Clinical Pathology Laboratory. Provide integral service to our veterinary patients in the specimen receiving, hematology processing, urinalysis, and parasitology sections of the laboratory. Responsibilities: Tasks: Prepares and processes various biological specimens, including blood, urine, feces, and tissue samples, for laboratory testing and solves problems related to collection and processing. Process specimens for cytologic analysis; utilize the hematology section instrumentation (automated hematology analyzer, microhematocrit centrifuge, cytocentrifuge, and automated slide stainer). Assist in finding missing specimens or requests with appropriate communication to requester; package and submit specimens to referral laboratories and enter returned results into the LIS. Perform urine chemical analysis: dipstick, ictotest & protein quantitation; examine sediment microscopically for crystals, cells, bacteria, etc.; examine fecal material for ova & parasites: Direct examination, fecal flotations, Baermanns & Knotts. Records laboratory results and generates reports for veterinarians. Answers phones and assists in clerical tasks and finding missing specimens or requests. File completed laboratory reports and glass slides. Follows quality control procedures to ensure the reliability and precision of test results, adhering to established laboratory protocols and standards. Assist with training of students, and new employees in laboratory operating procedures and techniques. Adhere to all relevant regulatory and safety standards, such as OSHA, CLIA, and CAP, to ensure a safe and compliant laboratory environment. Stays informed about emerging trends and best practices in veterinary clinical pathology through ongoing professional development and training. Provide support for out-of-hour, on-call coverage as needed and other duties as assigned. Education: Preferred
Associate's Degree in laboratory science, medical or veterinary laboratory technology or related field.

Qualifications: Knowledge of principles and procedures used in accession receiving, specimen handling, urinalysis, parasitology, and laboratory safety; familiarity with a variety of modern clinical laboratory instrumentation and knowledge of quality control and quality assurance practices and procedures. The successful candidate will have strong computer skills and effective communication, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills and be able to work as an effective team member.

License/Certification: Preferred
MLT - Medical Lab Technician Certification or CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician)
Preferred certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent organization

Work Schedule: This posting has two vacancies:
Vacancy 1 will work 8:00am - 5:00pm with a 1 hour unpaid lunch
Vacancy 2 will work 8:30am - 5:30pm with a 1 hour unpaid lunch
Work Type: Full Time: 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary: Minimum $23.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
Sign-on Bonus of 3-5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment
