Responsibilities: Responsible for proficiency surveys as assigned with an 80% or better average scoreWorking knowledge and skills necessary to perform and monitor quality control on all testing; trouble shoot all quality control problems timely to assure accuracy of all patient results, with proper tracking and documentation of all corrective actionWorking knowledge and skills necessary to perform preventative maintenance on all equipment as scheduled and / or needed due to instrument problems, with proper tracking and documentation of all corrective actionMust maintain yearly competence in all area through personal study, training videos, in-service, case studies, Internet opportunities, and one on one training if requested; must meet minimum requirement of documented training hours and continuing education requirementsAny technologist attending manufacturer training is considered "key operator" of that instrument and is responsible for competency training the other technologists, as well as performing method validation, and on-going monitoring of that instrumentMonitor and document all reagent tracking; date of receipt, opened, date in service, and date out of service, lot numbers and expiration datesConsistently utilizes two methods of patient identification in blood collection processing or issuing blood products; uses read-back or oral and telephone orders to assure complete accuracyThe ability to use sound judgment and to work independentlyThe ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and proceduresThe ability to identify problems and recommend solutionsMust have a working knowledge and ability to abide by all compliance standardsMust have the ability to use sound judgment and to work independentlyPossess knowledge, conceptual, interpersonal and technical skills to provide care to patients of all age groupsMaintains strict confidentiality regarding knowledge of all patient information, staff and hospital businessMust have the ability to identify problems and recommend solutions; utilize performance improvement process to keep physicians' trust, customer service and repeat business a priorityEducation: Bachelor's Degree preferred; must have completed a training program in an accredited school of Medical Technology. Experience: At least one (1) year of continuous job related experience is preferredLicensure/Certification: Must be registered as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent; current BLS (AHA) certification
