In This Role: You will be using automated analyzers (the same ones you likely use now!
), microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment.
You will be performing diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples that we receive in our lab by the thousands, every day.
You will be responsible for setting up and running lab tests and reading and releasing results according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
You can expect to specialize in one or more of the following areas: Hematology:Testing cell-related components of blood samples to enumerate and identify their cellular components, including the microscopic evaluation of blood smears and the use of automated and manual counting techniques.
Chemistry / Endocrinology:Testing blood and body fluids for various analytes, utilizing automated instrumentation.
Urinalysis:Analysis and evaluation of chemical and microscopic components of urine samples, using automated instrumentation and manual techniques.
Cytology:Processing blood and body fluids for microscopic examination by pathologists.
Includes slide preparation and staining, utilizing manual and automated counting techniques.
Immunology / Serology:Testing blood and other samples for the presence of viral and bacterial disease by detecting antibodies (AB) or antigens (AG).
What You'll Need To Succeed: Ideally, you will have 5+ years' experience working in a clinical diagnostic laboratory.
You have extensive experience setting up, running, reading lab tests, and operating laboratory equipment (microscopes and / or clinical diagnostic analyzers) Speaking of those analyzers - Here's the machines we currently use in-lab - we'd love to hear from candidates who have experience with the following platforms: Beckman Chemistry analyzers, especially the AU5800 Series Sysmex XN for Hematology Siemens Novus Siemens Immulite Hamilton STARlet series You have experience using a microscope to review slides, identifying the various elements of a sample, and releasing results.
You have a positive attitude and love to bring that energy into the lab every day to support your colleagues You enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team You concentrate on the details and can work reliably and precisely You have a great sense of team spirit and responsibility You possess a High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
A 2-, 3- or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
Candidates with the years of experience we seek typically have MT degrees and ASCP or other similar certifications - and we LOVE to see that level of experience in candidates who apply.
However, those certification are not required to work in our veterinary lab.
You are able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab - standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability - close, color, depth perception, nd ability to adjust focus.
This is a laboratory, so there is potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.

Schedule: You will be working 40 hours / week.
The scheduled shifts will shift a bit, depending on training and which bench you're working on during a given week.
Generally speaking, start times will be between the 11pm - 2am range Monday through Friday nights.
Weekend Rotations are required.
So, one week, you'll work Monday through Friday nights with Saturday and Sunday off; the next week, you'll work 4 weeknights plus Saturday night, and have one night off during the week and Sunday night.
Saturday hours are 8pm - 4:30am.
