DescriptionThe Division of Gastroenterology, Department of Medicine at the University of Washington is recruiting a Section Chief of Hepatology. The university has robust programs in liver transplantation, advanced therapy for liver tumors, and general hepatology spanning six sites currently. The primary responsibility of the Section Chief will be to lead, manage, and inspire a team of UW general and transplant hepatologists; develop and operationalize a strategy to improve hepatology access, expand hepatology programs, and increase clinical and translational hepatology research. In addition, the Section Chief will serve as a mentor for professional development of hepatology faculty and GI trainees and work with other hepatology and transplant leaders to ensure alignment with the UW transplant institute and its directors. Teaching responsibilities would involve oversight of medical students, residents, and fellows during outpatient and inpatient clinical activities, in concert with the GI and Transplant Hepatology Fellowship program. A successful Section Chief will increase the national and international prominence of the Hepatology section. We anticipate that the successful applicant would start in July 2024.
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time faculty member at the rank of Associate or full Professor, without tenure due to funding (WOT), in the Division of Gastroenterology at 1.0 FTE. Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Associate and Full Professors (WOT) hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1 – June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
The base salary range for this position will be $22,800 - $29,000 per month ($273,600 - $348,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC) with a range of: $3,000-$6,000 per month ($36,000- $72,000 annually). Other compensation associated with this position may include a Temporary Pay Supplement (TPS) and/or an Administrative Supplement (ADS) in addition to base pay. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
QualificationsCandidates should have an MD (or foreign equivalent), board certification (or foreign equivalent) in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology and must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent, as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
