Job Description:
The Middle Market Lead Underwriter represents the company within a defined territory of agencies, managing and servicing a profitable renewal of commercial lines business with a high level of technical underwriting expertise. This role leads monthly renewal strategy meetings, acts as an account steward for the customer, and serves as a key point of contact for the agency, implementing service strategies to uphold our customer service commitments. Responsibilities include making informed decisions regarding risk acceptability and pricing, providing agency service, maintaining intra-company communications, and serving as a peer leader, subject matter expert, and mentor for technical and sales skills. This position may also oversee Underwriting Assistants.
Responsibilities: Lead the review and underwriting of individual applications (new and renewal business) for commercial lines and agribusiness, determining risk acceptability according to company guidelines.Calculate potential risks and determine appropriate insurance premiums using actuarial data, statistics, and own judgement, making referrals as needed.Set accurate and realistic premium forecasts and business plans to help management establish budgets and performance targets.Build and maintain effective communication with agents and internal stakeholders regarding underwriting procedures, growth goals, and agency relations.Stay current with branch underwriting strategies related to appetite and pricing increases and assist in strategy execution.Develop and execute an effective agency strategy to grow the business and participate in ongoing underwriting education.Notify agencies of adverse underwriting decisions, underwriting requirements, status, and declinations, and answer questions from agencies, policyholders, or other external contacts while escalating issues to management as necessary.Remain informed about state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity, and trends, sharing information with team members.Provide subject matter expertise for departmental projects and initiatives related to underwriting practices.Assist in the training and development of new employees and serve as a mentor for other underwriters and interns.Requirements: 5+ years of Commercial Underwriting experienceBachelor's degree in business or related discipline, or equivalent experienceContact:
