Johnson City Medical Center | Laboratory | Full TimeDescriptionJob Description:Summary:The Medical Laboratory Technician III (MLT III) is responsible for the performance of a variety of moderate to high complexity testing to aid the diagnosis and treatment of disease under the professional direction of a qualified Medical Technologist or other certified Laboratory Scientist as defined by appropriate regulation(s). The MLT III may have direct patient contact if performing phlebotomy, pediatric sweat chloride testing, bone marrow assistance, and therapeutic phlebotomy procedures. The scope of care may include testing performed on neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and/or geriatric patients. Responsibilities include primary and secondary troubleshooting and repair of selected instrumentation. The MLT III must have an understanding of the technical aspect of all diagnostic procedures being performed or as assigned, including the steps to take for unacceptable test/quality control performance/results and diagnosis of instrument failures/absurd values.The Medical Laboratory Technician III may be asked to serve as first contact for medical personnel with regards to problem solving and resolution involving a qualified Medical Technologist, Technical Specialist or Manager as needed. The MLT III has additional responsibilities including but not limited to the performance of new and updated test validations; new instrument/test start-up/validation/training; first line of quality documentation and manual result entry reviews; troubleshooting of unresolved quality/result/maintenance issues; and other responsibilities and duties as assigned by the Manager.The Medical Laboratory Technician III assists with the clinical training of students and/or orientation of new employees. The MLT III supports the Laboratory's Performance Improvement Programs to ensure services exceed quality and customer service standards. The responsibility of supporting a self-directed laboratory team concept is demonstrated by having a positive attitude, willing to give and accept constructive criticism, always maintaining a high-quality work standard and willing to accept other duties as assigned.Requirements:Associate's degree in a chemical, physical, biology, biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution to include clinical laboratory training; or Successful completion of an official military medical laboratory procedures course and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician); or Meet CLIA Standard; Testing personnel qualification 42CFR493.1423 for moderate complexity testing and 42CFR493.1489 for high complexity testing as applicable. Johnson City Medical Center Technicians performing Clinical Trial testing must meet the State of New York Department of Health Part 58-1 of 10 NYCRR Clinical Laboratories Standards 58-1.5, duties and qualification of clinical laboratory technical personnel. Certification by the ASCP, AMT, or other organization deemed comparable is not required but preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent.
