Receive 17% weekday nights, 26% weekend nights, or 15% weekend day shift differentials Department: InPatient 4th Floor - SRMC FTE: 0.90 Full Time Shift: Days Position Summary: Assist to promote and restore patients' health through supervised nursing care to assigned patients within the nursing process; collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members. The nature of the job is diverse with frequent new and varied work situations. The job involves a moderate degree of complexity. Ensure adherence to Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups. Detailed responsibilities: POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental and hospital policies and procedures, guidelines, objectives, and quality assurance programs PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-service training, meetings and workshops PATIENT SAFETY - Report potential and actual patient safety, concerns, medical errors and or near misses in a timely manner thru the chain of command and document within the PSN system PATIENT CARE - Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional psychological and spiritual support to patient, friends and families PATIENT CARE - Promote patient's independence by establishing patient care goals; teaching patient, friends, identified ley caregiver and family to understand condition, medications, and self-care skills; answering questions TEAMWORK - Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams and resolve patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies COMPLIANCE - Active participation in hospital strategic initiatives such as quality improvement and monitoring TJC compliance MONITOR - Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care including equipment and material resources DOCUMENT - Ability to assess and document evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status DOCUMENT - Able to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools in a timely and accurate manner. PATIENT OBSERVATION - Observe patient to ensure their safety and well-being; report observations to nurse or appropriate designee; assist patient and family members with any needs and questions within established parameters. PATIENT OBSERVATION - Interpret, document rhythm strips, monitor designated patients and notify appropriate personnel of changes and life threatening rhythms. CLERK - Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of assigned area as required OTHER - Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right" Qualifications Education: Essential: High School or GED Equivalent Training Education specialization: Essential: MA or PCT or CNA or DD214 or 2 sem nurs schl or UNMH Tech Experience: Essential: No minimum experience required Nonessential: 1 year recent experience directly related Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo Credentials: Essential: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days Basic Arrhytmia Cert or equivlanet w/in 6 mos of position Physical Conditions: Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work. Working conditions: Nonessential: May be exposed to infectious agents/blood-borne pathogens Department: Clinical Nursing Support
