PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Video Surveillance Technician is responsible for continuous observation and documentation of behaviors of up to twelve patients. The patient assignment will consist of patients who are are at high-risk for falling, high-risk for sustaining injury from a fall, and other diagnoses that could contribute to patient injury. The Video Surveillance Technician is also responsible to observe and document on up to two patients housed on the Epilepsy Monitoring unit for signs that the patient's safety is at risk related to seizure activity. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide age-appropriate care, including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain information identifying a patient's needs, and to provide care as needed. Provides continuous observation of assigned patients at all times and accurately documents patient behavior according to policy. Responds to patient behaviors and crisis situations. Initiates verbal interventions within the scope of responsibilities and notifies RN when verbal intervention is not successful. Responds with promptness, empathy, and interest to needs of patients. Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, and employees and works constructively with all members of the health care team. Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to Registered Nurse, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Performs other related duties as required. SHIFT: 16hrs e/o weekend - 7am-3:30pm or 3pm-11:30pm Weekend Commitment: - Every Other Weekend Holiday Commitment: Every Other Holiday SCOPE, PURPOSE, AND FREQUENCY OF CONTACTS: Daily contact with patients, family members, visitors, and employees DIRECTION/SUPERVISION OF OTHERS: None DIRECTION/SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Nurse Manager / Nursing Coordinator / Charge RN / Staff RN EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or equivalent is required. 1 year experience in a healthcare setting preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge and ability to operate computerized station. Knowledge of department standards and selected procedures Ability to recognize changes in patient status and take appropriate action. Ability to communicate effectively utilizing verbal and written communication skills. Ability to perform elementary math skills. Ability to document patient care. Ability to follow standard precautions. Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy. Ability to handle difficult patient situations effectively.
