* Learns pulse programming to troubleshoot problems that arise with unique pulse sequences used at the Martino's Center.
* Trains large investigator population on new and emergent pulse sequences that may enhance their research.
* Works closely with the physicist at the Center to help educate the large Principal Investigator community about upcoming software and hardware changes.
* Includes preparing patient, positioning, setting imaging parameters, performing computer processing and displaying images.
* Performs scheduled quality control procedures on MRI scanner and other related equipment.
Records QA results as required.
Reports any potential equipment related problems to supervisor as necessary.
* Prepares for and performs intravenous injection of MR contrast agents including the use of the MR compatible power injector.
Understands and can communicate the possible contraindications as well as monitor for and respond to adverse reactions to MR contrast agents.
Records all information regarding contrast injections appropriately.
* Inserts IV catheters as needed.
* Instructs patients and visitors in MR safety procedures.
* Ensures adherence to safety practices by all persons entering the MRI area.
* Reviews outpatient and/or inpatient schedules to confirm exams have been protocoled and reviewed for potential contra-indications.
* Acts as final check point for patient safety and protocol clarification.
* Communicates with Radiologist for protocol clarification when necessary.
* Uses designated department protocols.
If issues are observed within the designated protocol, reports them to the site supervisor and/or Quality Assurance Manager

* Adheres to MGH "Good-To-Go" policies and practices.
* Reviews the MRI patient procedure screening form with the patient and completes the MRI staff specific questions.
* Utilizes departmental specific tools to confirm contrast dosing, and patient safety through the use of such tools as QPID, electronic dose calculators, image review (PACS) and other means designated by the department.
* Maintains a neat work environment, including patient care areas, MR scan rooms, MR control rooms and reading areas.
* Monitors appropriate inventory and par levels of necessary supplies and communicates with Manager / Supervisor.
* Assists receptionist and other Department staff in various duties as necessary (i.e.
scheduling and transporting patients, taking stock inventory, filing, etc.).
* Develops knowledge of MR physics through on-the-job training, reading, etc., and keeps current on new developments in MR imaging.
* Identifies hazardous system malfunctions; secures area and removes patients and personnel from magnet bay during emergency situations.
* Co-leading the Martinos MR Safety Committee(MMSC) meetings along with the Lead MR Research Specialist
* Assists the MMSC in updating and creation of MRI safety and MRI screening content, and updating the center's online policies.
