Pay Information $3,365 to $3,400 per week About The Position Job Summary: The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing MRI scans on patients to produce high-quality diagnostic images of internal body structures. The MRI Tech must ensure patient safety and comfort, operate MRI equipment, and maintain high standards of imaging quality while minimizing the risks of contrast agents and magnetic field exposure. Key Responsibilities: MRI Imaging: Perform MRI scans as ordered by physicians to create detailed images of organs, tissues, bones, and blood vessels. Select the appropriate MRI sequences and protocols based on the body part being imaged (e.g., brain, spine, joints, abdomen). Position patients appropriately to ensure optimal image quality while maintaining patient safety. Administer contrast agents as needed, ensuring proper handling, dosage, and monitoring of patients' reactions. Patient Care: Explain MRI procedures to patients, ensuring they understand the process and what to expect during the scan. Ensure patient comfort and safety during the scan, including providing appropriate positioning and support. Monitor patients for any adverse reactions during or after the MRI procedure, particularly if contrast agents are used. Provide reassurance to patients, especially those who may feel anxious or claustrophobic about the MRI procedure. MRI Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain MRI equipment, ensuring it is calibrated and functioning properly. Troubleshoot minor technical issues with MRI equipment and perform routine maintenance and quality control checks. Ensure the MRI machine is cleaned and prepared for the next patient. Keep up-to-date with the latest MRI technologies and techniques. Radiation and Safety Protocols: Although MRI does not involve ionizing radiation, ensure compliance with all safety protocols to protect patients and staff from potential risks related to the strong magnetic fields and radiofrequency waves. Verify that all patients are screened for any contraindications to MRI (e.g., metal implants, pacemakers, pregnancy) before the procedure. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary and ensure proper safety procedures are followed at all times. Image Quality and Documentation: Review MRI images for clarity, accuracy, and completeness before sending them to the radiologist. Document patient information, procedures, and imaging results accurately in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS). Collaborate with radiologists and physicians to discuss any issues with image quality or the need for additional scans. Collaboration and Communication: Communicate effectively with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare providers to understand imaging requirements and relay patient information. Report any unusual findings or technical difficulties to the appropriate medical team. Maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, providing a calming presence to help them feel at ease during the procedure. Compliance and Standards: Adhere to all safety standards and protocols for MRI imaging, including infection control and patient privacy (HIPAA compliance). Maintain certification and licensure as required by the state and professional organizations.
