Essential functions (job duties):

JOB PURPOSE

Lead efforts to create video and other multimedia fundraising and communication materials during the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship processes. Provide creative support and partnership with informative and inspiring messages in a variety of media that encourage philanthropic support to promote the mission, priorities and values of Wayne State University. This position reports to the Director, Integrated Communications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Create compelling and relevant content for use in video and multimedia projects, using interviews with faculty, students, donors and staff. Capture relevant B-roll footage to create persuasive videos for use in fundraising with individual donors and corporations and foundations. 35%

Manage multiple concurrent video and multimedia projects from concept to execution. 15%

Collaborate with colleagues in academic units, donor and alumni relations, and other areas in the division to develop video and multimedia content to drive the Wayne State University mission and help to meet aggressive fundraising goals during the comprehensive campaign. 15%

Lead divisional colleagues in exploring the creative use of video and multimedia content in fundraising and stewardship. 15%

Monitor trends in media innovation to inform communications strategies and keep materials current and fresh. 10%

Support ongoing use of the Digital Asset Management system by directing the uploading and classification of relevant video clips and images for ease of future use. 5%

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Bachelor's degree

Graduation from an accredited college of university with a bachelor's degree in video production, communications, or related field.

Experience Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)

Additional experience information:

At least two years of experience working with video, preferably in a higher-education or non-profit fundraising setting.

• Strong knowledge and experience in video production and editing.

• Experience with other elements of communication such as graphic design, web content, social media, etc. is highly preferred.

• Strong research, interviewing, writing and editing skills.

• Strong knowledge and understanding of fundraising and stewardship processes and communications.

ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.

COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must. Ability to work successfully with persons from diverse backgrounds.

PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills required. Maturity, sound judgment and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.

TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex projects.

TECHNICAL SKILLS: Experience recording audio and video for interviews and presentations. Experience using b-roll to communicate unspoken elements of the story or support key messages. Expertise in the use of Premiere Pro or other video editing software. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and Teams. Ability to understand and translate complex concepts into lay terms.

WRITING SKILLS: Ability to conduct research, interview subjects and write materials that are creative and interesting, with strong attention to detail, grammar and style rules.

Travel may be required to film students, donors, B-roll, etc. in a localized setting.
