POSITION SUMMARY:
Teaches music theory to youth and adults, and assists in planning and leading band practice for musical performances during Corps worship services and other programs is enjoyable and spiritual; ensures that all band instruments are properly maintained.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. It is intended to identify the major responsibilities and requirements of this position. Serves as musician for all Corps services.
Plans, leads, and evaluates band practices.
Teaches music theory to children and adults and provides band instruction; oversees the needs of the children in the Corps music programs.
Assists in monitoring the use and maintenance of all band equipment to ensure the long life of the equipment; ensures accountability of all music books.
Assists with planning music curriculum, and coordinating musical events and programs.
Assists the Corps Officer in developing mechanisms for bringing children into The Salvation Army music programs.
Assists with music fundraising efforts.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Two year college degree in Music or a related field,
and
one year experience teaching music principles,
or
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must be a uniform wearing Salvationist in good standing.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
None.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission.
Knowledge of theoretical music.
Knowledge of The Salvation Army's music and publications.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of band training.
Ability to lead band members in practice and actual performances.
Ability to work well with children.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to read and hear music notes.
Ability to play music instruments.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time while leading a musical band during performances.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a normal church environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
