What We're Looking ForMyPath is seeking an energetic and visionary Senior Director of Development & Communications to lead transformative growth and amplify our mission of supporting youth to build their financial capability and get on a path to building wealth. As the driving force behind our fund development strategy, you will cultivate high-impact relationships, craft compelling proposals, and expand our visibility as a thought leader in the field.
This is a role for a strategic and passionate leader who excels at building trust, aligning funder priorities with bold organizational goals, and inspiring others to action. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will oversee fundraising, grant writing, communications, and board engagement while driving innovation and streamlining systems to achieve ambitious revenue targets. For the right motivated individual, this position offers a pathway to a C-suite or Chief-level role within the organization, making it an exceptional opportunity for professional growth and leadership advancement.
What You'll DoFundraising Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive fund development strategy to significantly grow and diversify revenue over the next three years, with a near-term goal of hitting revenue targets by June 2025. Own relationships with a portfolio of current and prospective funders, cultivating trust and enthusiasm to secure major institutional and philanthropic grants.
Strategic Partnership Development: Collaborate with the CEO, board members, and leadership team to align funder priorities with MyPath's mission and strategic objectives. Lead prospect research and set up impactful meetings and presentations with funders to secure their investment in MyPath's programs.
Grant Writing and Management: Spearhead the creation of compelling grant proposals and reports, ensuring timely submission of high-quality packages that align with funder expectations. Oversee the preparation of all necessary attachments and work with program staff and the CFO to develop budgets and meet financial reporting requirements. Maintain accurate tracking of multi-year grants and deadlines in Salesforce NPSP and other platforms.
Visibility and Communications: Elevate MyPath's reputation through strategic communications, including storytelling, video content, and events. Represent MyPath at conferences, networking events, and other forums to build visibility and credibility. Partner with the CEO and board to advocate for marketing and communication resources that amplify MyPath's impact and reach.
Board Engagement and Development: Establish and lead the new board fundraising committee, partnering with key members to design strategies that enhance board engagement and contributions. Provide coaching and support to board members for fundraising initiatives.
Team Leadership and Collaboration: Supervise and support the growth of internal and external team members, including a strong grant-writing contractor and our talented Development & Communications Manager. Inspire and align internal teams and stakeholders, ensuring systems and processes are effective, streamlined, and supportive of organizational goals.
Systems Optimization: Partner with the Chief Program Officer to refine data systems and reporting tools to improve efficiency and ensure funders' data and information needs are met. Manage ongoing updates and improvements to tracking and reporting systems to support the growing complexity of MyPath's funding landscape.
Innovative Program Support: Play a pivotal role in the development and rollout of innovative programs to support groundbreaking initiatives like California's forthcoming HOPE Accounts and other cutting-edge projects. Lead proposal development for new initiatives that align with MyPath's vision of fostering economic and wealth equity for youth of color.
RequirementsWhat You'll Bring6-8 years of experience in communications and nonprofit fund development, including successful grant writing, major donor cultivation, and development operations.
Proven track record in securing six-figure funding and building sustainable funder relationships.
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to write both technical and compelling narratives infused with passion.
Strong project management skills and experience in refining development systems to support growth.
Expertise in managing and inspiring teams, including direct reports and cross-functional collaborators.
A creative and entrepreneurial mindset, with a knack for spotting trends and adopting best practices in nonprofit fundraising.
Enthusiasm for engaging with diverse communities and advancing equity-focused missions.

Compensation and Benefits $120,000 to $130,000 + 100% employer-paid medical, dental, vision (for employees); a 401k saving plan; 20 to 30 days of Paid Time Off (depending on years of service); 10 paid holidays in addition to: time off on your birthday, on midterm and presidential election days, and the week between Christmas and New Year's Day.
