The Role
TJH is looking for a skilled National Design Manager to support our Corporate Operations in Aliso Viejo, CA.
The National Design Manager is responsible for the development and oversight of the interior and structural design process, principles, and standards to ensure it meets the needs of TJH customers across geographies.
This includes working with Divisions to ensure Sales, Design and local market feedback is captured from both a structural and interior design perspective, prior to an official paper walk and frame walk of the plan, conducting global and geography-specific design research to stay ahead of trends to share across Divisions, all while identifying the impact to TJH and developing recommendations for changes and updates.
Day In The Life
Develop and manage design processes to ensure project efficiency and completion.
Maintain divisional design package library (consistencies, differences, dollar separations) and create a system to track, maintain, and update as required.
Develop master specification list per library plan in coordination with National Architecture, and pass on to Divisions Design & Product leads to manage.
Define, document, and manage corporate design standards, details, and best practices in careful consideration of market nuances.
Establish a regular cadence and documented process of gathering Design intelligence (to build and maintain knowledge of Customer preferences), Market Asset Specialist intelligence (to inform staging strategy) within Divisions.
Hold Division accountable to analyzing every possible upgrade, option, buildability, cost and how buyers including kids & pets will move through homes.
Monitor the production of design packages across the divisions to ensure all relevant information is included.
Coordinate the efforts of division design, purchasing, construction teams to ensure design and technical consistency and quality across projects and are delivered in a timely manner.
Provide comprehensive review of all milestone deliverables to ensure consistent quality across divisions and adherence to project goals as they relate to design, budget, and operation.
Review project milestone completions to assure they meet value design, target profile, division requirements, corporate standards, and quality design standards.
Oversee staging process and develop the core packages for all needed customer personas while managing expense, vendors, and overall execution of the process.
Develop process and structure to align with architectural plans with structural design principles.
Analyze total costs, assist business functions with ROI analysis, price and rate benchmarking and negotiations.
Maintain current knowledge of industry and business trends through communication with professional organizations, suppliers, customers, competitors, and other informed individuals.
Regularly translate data, insights, and forecasts into actionable and relevant recommendations using visualization, data analysis tools, presentations, and other methods to effectively communicate clear and concise recommendations to corporate and division leadership.
Create, maintain, and track analysis and information cataloguing for easy access and use.
What You'll Need
Bachelor's degree in Interior Architecture and Design or related field.
7-10 years' experience in interior design or related field.
Previous experience acting as a front-line people leader in interior design or related area.
Advanced system skills to use all Microsoft products and internal company systems including CAD and Bluebeam.

Understands and reacts to market design trends to be current and identifies where they can be layered into the TJH design packages.
Has deep knowledge of vendor product lines and details a benefit that can be shared with the customer on the values and challenges of all products within the portfolio.
Ability to evaluate individual design skills of each team member and help to coach and develop or performance manage.
Understands and can read architectural plans and interpret to address design needs to meet the local customer needs.
Has a strong understanding of the homebuilding process from start to finish and how design role fits in to ensure meets responsibilities of the role.
