Multiple positions available.


The Network Technician II will be responsible for all duties related to installation of fiber optic cable to the premises, including splicing and installation of network and customer electronics.
Working locations range widely from under buildings in tight spaces to working in trenches, off ladders or in a bucket truck; and in all manner of weather, day or night.
The Network Technician II needs to be able to work on projects efficiently and independently, while demonstrating a high aptitude for collaboration and customer engagement.


SUPERVISIONDirect supervision for daily work is provided by the Network Technician III with oversight from the Network Engineer.

Examples of Duties Installing, terminating, and testing indoor/outdoor fiber optics in a fiber-to-the-premises application Installing, terminating, and testing of Cat 5 and Cat 6 cable.
Installing, and testing network equipment Routing fiber and/or cables from the outside to the inside of a home Perform outside plant construction related to buried and aerial FTTP, including: Fiber optic splicing (fusion and mechanical).
Fiber optic troubleshooting, including OTDR and light meter readings.
Construction of drop/cable.
Operation of bucket truck and other equipment Assistance with installation of fiber and networking in central offices, hubs, cabinets, hand holes.
Installation and activation of network equipment in homes and businesses.
Onsite assistance with connection of customer owned devices to PUD network equipment Perform jobsite and project documentation utilizing company provided software and hardware.
Participate in a regularly scheduled on-call rotation.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Typical QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required.
One year of relevant experience with communications network installation or equivalent perferred.
One year of fusion fiber optic splicing preferred.
One year of relevant experience with residential construction, electric, or other home or commercial maintenance preferred.
One year of relevant experience with database, POS, CMS, or computer systems other preferred.
Familiarity with navigating or installing WiFi routers or modems.
Washington State Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to comply with all company required training applicable to position (including but not limited to bucket truck, ladder, forklift, and blood borne pathogens) Ability to independently operate all assigned equipment including but not limited to OTDR, fusion splicer, bucket truck, Ability to independently operate assigned company software and hardware (laptop, mobile device, cell phone, and MS Office,).
Ability to distinguish colors and clearly communicate Fiber Optic Cable Color Codes Ability to work at heights up to 25 feet.
Ability to work in adverse conditions (hot in the summer, cold in the winter) Ability to understand and adhere to National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and District safety rules.
Ability to adhere to all WAC, OSHA and requirements.

Must pass a standard criminal background check.
Standard Monday through Friday work schedule is expected to be maintained, but on-call work and evening/weekend hours may be required.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSInstall work is in customers' homes and may require frequent lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
Job requires standing, climbing, bending, pulling, crawling, and reaching.
Reaching and lifting overhead is required.
Use of safety equipment as required.
Climbs and works from ladders poles, and other structures at heights of less than 25 feet.


RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
This position requires the employee to reside at their primary residence within sixty (60) minutes legal driving time of their assigned headquarters located west of the Hood Canal Bridge.
The residency requirement must be met within 6 months of hire date.

Medical, Dental, Vision and Rx Insurance: Comprehensive medical, dental and vision insurance plans provided by Public Risk Utility Management Services (PURMS).
Employees pay 5% of the monthly premium, regardless of the number of dependents covered.


Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA VEBA): HRA VEBA plan is a health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) for employees to use for qualified health care expenses of the employee and eligible dependents while employed and upon separation of employment.
Employees contribute, through payroll deduction, tax-free contributions of $25.00 per month.
The PUD contributes $75 per month.


Retirement: The District is a member of PERS and participation is mandatory for employees in eligible positions.
Both the employee and the employer make contributions to the PERS system.
Employee contributions are made on a tax-deferred basis.
New employees may choose between PERS Plan 2 and PERS Plan 3.


The PUD participates in the Washington State Deferred Compensation Program (457 plan).
DCP allows employees to defer a portion of their paycheck for investment for retirement similar to a 401(k).
The PUD matches employee deferrals at 50 cents per dollar, up to a total match of 4.5% from the PUD.


Paid Time Off: The PUD utilizes a PTO program.
New employees are offered 20 days of PTO each year.
PTO accrues at 6.15 hours per biweekly pay period.
Accruals increase with longevity of service after 3 years.


Holidays: The PUD recognizes 11 holidays and provides two floating holidays each year.
The second floating holiday is available for use after six months of employment.
Floating holidays must be taken during the calendar year in which the floating holiday is earned.
At 5 years of employment, employees are offered 3 floating holidays each year and 4 floating holidays each year after 10 years of employment.

A separate long-term disability insurance applies after 180 day waiting period.


Life and AD&D Insurance: $10,000 through Standard Insurance.


Wellness Reimbursement: The PUD offers up to $300 per year in expenses related to wellness activities and items such as exercise equipment, massage therapy, gym memberships, etc.
