The Registered Nurse NICU cares for newborn babies who are delivered pre-term or at-term newborns who experience complications at the time of birth.
The Registered Nurse NICU provides intensive around-the-clock care, including both medical needs and basic daily care activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care of the neonatal patient and coordinates with healthcare team members
+ Cares for infants transitioning to extrauterine life
+ Provides age and culturally appropriate care to patient
+ Provides nutritional assessment & specialized feedings
+ Changes dressings, inserts catheters, starts IVs
+ Provides arterial & intravenous therapy
+ Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on patients, such as incubators and ventilators
+ Assists NICU Physician during examination, treatment and procedures, which can include lifesaving measures
+ Participates in discharge planning
+ Assesses signs and symptoms indicating changes in patients condition, documents changes and informs physician/charge nurse
+ Collects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from health care members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses
+ Identifies and prioritizes actions based upon patient care requirements
+ Performs interventions according to identified priorities, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standard
+ Provides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient/family environment
+ Initiates and evaluates family education
+ Documents and revises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventions
+ Participates in activities to facilitate good interpersonal communications with facility Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements:
+ Current Registered Nurse license for the state in which the nurse practices
+ One year NICU experience required
+ NRP card per contract requirement
+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
+ Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable
+ Current CPR if applicable
+ TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
+ Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
+ Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
+ Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
+ Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
+ Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
+ Computer proficiency required
+ Must be at least 18 years of age
