Job Description: The Group Risk Specialist provides a comprehensive and diverse range of risk management expertise to business leaders. Leads and supports the implementation of appropriate risk frameworks and related management activities to mitigate enterprise and/or business-wide risk exposures for key business segments of the Bank or functional area.
This non-model risk role provides governance and oversight for non-models, which are analytical tools that support business processes and are not considered models. The role will support the governance of non-models by ensuring they are identified, risk-tiered, and inventoried correctly.
Depth & Scope: Highly seasoned professional role requiring substantial knowledge/expertise in a complex field. Integrates knowledge of the enterprise sub-function's overarching strategy in developing solutions across multiple functions or operations. Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services. Acts as a technical expert/lead, integrating cross-functional understanding within their field of specialty. Leads cross-functional teams or projects with significant resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Independently manages end-to-end functional programs. Solves complex problems and develops new solutions. Uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify solutions. Impacts the achievement of sub-function or business line objectives. Work is guided by policies and industry standards. Communicates difficult concepts; influences and gains alignment across increasingly senior stakeholders. Works autonomously and guides others within their area of expertise. Education & Experience: Undergraduate degree or technical certificate and/or 7+ years relevant experience. Advanced knowledge of risk management governance, programs, policies, practices, and reporting. Knowledge of risk management environment, standards, regulations, and mitigation. Ability to lead, plan, implement, and evaluate program/project activities. Skill in mentoring and coaching. Advanced skill in using analytical software tools and data analysis methods. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across teams and functions. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Customer Accountabilities: Leads the development and implementation of standards, policies, and processes that mitigate operational risk exposures. Proactively analyzes potential risks and ensures escalation of key risks. Establishes and provides ongoing analysis and reporting on operational risk. Coordinates activities relating to core operational risk disciplines/programs. Supports enterprise-wide operational risk escalation and review processes. Directs the development and monitoring of Key Risk Indicators. Employee/Team Accountabilities: Participates fully as a member of the team, supporting a positive work environment. Provides thought leadership and participates in knowledge transfer within the team. Keeps current on emerging trends and grows knowledge of the business. Contributes to team development of skills and capabilities. Acts as a brand ambassador for your business area/function and the bank.
